Do you recommend "maximom" twin carrier?

I'm not sure whether it would be something I use. My twins are a little over 8 lbs and I'm still on a weight limit from my C-section. It seems like it would be too heavy to carry them both in a front carrier for too long. I'm thinking about just getting a regular baby bjorn and just carrying one at a time while entertaining the other one in some other way.

Anyone with any recommendations for or against the double carrier?

My sister gave me one she picked up at a tag sale -- with the video. Unfortunately, with two fussmonsters, I never could figure out how to do it. Worth a shot if you have more patience than me. Learn how to use it before you need it. If you don't use it as a double carrier, it does also function as two pretty nice (I think, we also had the Baby Bjorns and used those instead) single carriers, so there's nothing to lose.

I purchased it when pregnant. My twins were born at 7.5 and just under 8 pounds. I also had a c-section. By the time I could carry them, they were far too heavy to carry around at once for any extended length of time. Also, the carrier is quite cumbersome to use when you are trying to get two babies into it, buckle them in 5 different ways, strap it on yourself without dropping anyone, etc. I sold mine on Ebay after using it only once. Waste of money in my opinion!

another vote here for don't waste your money. I got it. GOt the girls in and got it on, but it was never comfortable, and they never stayed stable, I felt like I had to hold them both the whole time or it would fall right off of me...

Moby wraps can hold 2 small babies. I never did it with 2 but I know their website shows a woman doing it.

I have one and only used it once as a double carrier. It was just way too difficult to put on with both babies by myself. I still use it all the time, but we use it as single carriers. Maybe if you are talented enough, you could make it work. I couldn't.

    NO, NO, NO!!

Looks like a great concept but figuring it out, even with the use of a video, was too difficult. Once it was figured out, it was near impossible to carry them in that. I returned it. It can though be fine as single carriers.

After 8 weeks of bedrest and then a c-section, I could barely even carry one baby for limited periods, let alone two. I also thought this looked like a good idea but realized after the babies were born that it would never have worked for me. Maybe it would work for a strong, healthy woman with no back pain, but that doesn't describe the majority of moms of newborn twins.

We were always "baby carriers/baby wearers" with our first two, so I purchased one of these new while I was still pregnant with the twins. I couldn't figure out how to effectively use it AT ALL after they were born and ready to 'wear'. :( The harnesses are advertised to wear whether they are strapped in or not - and let me tell you - they don't do that very well! They are bulky and it is difficult to get the babies hooked up unless you have lots of help or happen to have 8 arms.

We preferred the backpack carriers (Trailblazer or the Kelti) and my husband and I both would wear one baby each.

I bought one used off of Ebay. I found it too cumbersome to use for many of the reasons PPs have stated.

Mine was OK as two single carriers when I could convince someone else to wear one kid. I used it as a double a few times when I had no other feasible option but I felt it didn't distribute their weight properly and caused shoulder pain (and I've never had back problems). My boys were 6,1 and 6,9 at birth and are only 22 pounds now and I still thought they were too heavy for this carrier to be comfortable. I avoid using it at all now because even as a single the weight distribution is too high on the back.

I could never get it on so that they boy swere comfortable -- and I felt it was a waste of money.

we opted for single carriers (bjorns are awesome and real easy to get on and off)

Wow - I never expected a unanimous opinion! Thanks everyone... I will skip the maximom and go for the bjorn.

I wear my twins in the baby bjorn all the time. Even one at a time, they are HEAVY! I am physically strong, in great shape, and exercise a lot, and I get REALLY tired from wearing the babies around. And they're only 12 & 13 lbs now. Can't imagine wearing both at once.

    The bjorn rocks, though! :)

haven't tried it but heard awful things. I just got an Ergo on a recco from a friend - we have a bjorn but i find it kills my shoulders and back - it's not the new lumbar support one, but still.

The Ergo isn't cheap (around $90), adn the babies have to be able to hold their heads up, but - it will take them through toddlerhood, and you can wear it as a front carrier, hip carrier or back carrier. The cool thing is that it has a very padded belt so it's like a well-designed backpack and the weight sits on your hips not al in your shoulders.

The site i got it from lastellablue.com has a 60 or 90 day trial period - and so does the home site (google it). I think it's a great investment and we're about to get another one, probably.
