Everyone keeps talking about CIO but I am interested if you seperate them. we have 3 children and own a 3 bedroom house. if we have to do CIO, do we have to seperate them? right now, everytime one makes a peep we usually run in there to help him soothe him so he doesn't wake the other.

    just curious -THANKS! :D

I do. Although, I recently started putting my girls in separate cribs. That cut down on a lot of the crying and yammering since they couldn't hit/scratch each other in their sleep. Now, when one cries, the other just sleeps through it or ignores it.

I had to do CIO with Jake, and had no choice at the time but to do it with Emma in the same room. It went fine, she woke up a couple of times, but quickly went back to sleep.

My boys were in the same room when we did CIO at months. Within a couple of days, they slept through each others cry.

My girls have different cribs but in the same room. I've done CIO in with them together and they have learned to sleep through the cries.

My guys sleep through each others crying all the time. They learn to tune it out.

Yep - with our boys when we first starting CIO they were both up and crying. I think it actually helped because once one of them had gotten the hang of just going to sleep, the other one seemed to pick up on his cues.

With my first set I seperated them because I felt bad. With this set, I have no choice. I don't have the room to seperate them. They are doing fine. They sleep through each other's cries. I have a fan going in the older kids room, so the babies crying doesn't wake them. If I had it to do over, I would have just kept the older two in the same room and had them get used to each other's cries.

    Good luck,
    Crystal

My kids constantly wake each other up. I am in the process opf splitting them into different rooms. I wish I had put them in separate rooms from the beginning. Oh well - live and learn ! ;)

I began CIO about 3 weeks ago. We have been pretty successful with the boys only fussing 1-2 times a night for a minute or two. They are in the same room; seperate cribs. The only time I have gone in to get them is the past couple of nights Noah has had bad gas and the drops have not taken the edge off. So, I do not let them cry when they are very hysterical. CIO for me is them fussing a little.

I guess all babies are different, but I definately don't think you'd have to separate them. We did CIO around 8-9 months in the same room, separate beds. The first night Alina only cried for 10-15 min., Madison cried for 50-60 minutes. The 2nd night, Alina cried for just a brief time again, Madison cried for maybe 15-20 min. Neither one cried very much by the 3rd night. I'd say for the 1st couple months afterwards though, they might each occasionally have a CIO night of 15-20 min. Even before CIO, though, they would often sleep through each others cries during the night, naps, etc.

    Good Luck!
