Do you hear this a lot?

One of the most common reactions I get from people when I tell them that I am having twins is, "I always wanted twins!" Do you hear that often? Today at the library I checked out a National Geographic DVD on multiples and the librarian asked if I was having twins. When I told her yes, she became very animated and told me that when she was younger she would only date men who were a twin or had twins in their family because she was obsessed with having twins. She never had twins but her enthusiasm clearly never faded. She was sweet and I had never heard anything like that before!

Friday morning I went for an early morning walk and was happy to run into a couple each sporting a baby girl in a baby bjorn. I couldn't contain myself and I shouted out, 'Twins!' and told them I was pregnant with twin boys. The couple perked up and we exchanged the usual: when are you due, what are you having, how long did you carry, are they fraternal? The girls were five months old, fraternal, and absolutely beautiful. They offered me one piece of advice and said to get out with the babies as early and as much as possible b/c being stuck indoors can be very suffocating. They took their girls out in the baby bjorns when they were just a week old. I can't wait to go on walks with my husband and our baby boys this fall! Good times.

Sometimes I hear that people have always wanted twins. Other people seem shocked that we're having twins - I'm also not really showing yet. Many people seem overwhelmed by the concept too. We generally get very interested remarks though. Even though twins are more common in the last 20 years, many people still find them to be a novelty.

We always got that "I always wanted twins" Trust me it is much nicer to hear than "better you than me!". One of my nurses told me she had 10 children trying for a set of twins... she has twin sisters and all her siblings and a few siblings in law have twins but she and her DH never did. Crazy huh?? I guess I never thought about "trying" for twins! But some people can be so sweet concentrate on those coments and dismiss all the negative ones that are sure to come your way!

I did hear that a lot ... and it's funny but I always wanted twins too! My mom's mom was a fraternal twin and so were some aunts in the family so I always hoped when I was younger that I would have twins ... and when I found out that I was pregnant, I wondered it it was twins ... and lo and behold, it was!!!!!

I couldn't agree with them more! It's not really that hard at all. Thank God for infant seats and the double snap n go.

I STILL get that comment all the time.

I have not gotten any negative comments yet about having twins. Most people are thrilled and smile at me when I say I am having a boy and a girl when they ask me what I am having. I know my family is overly excited too that me and DH are having twins.

For the most part I found that people are really interested in this pregnancy. I have gotten a lot of nice comments so far, but I have had my share of negitive, did you just say that out loud, comments as well.

I've gotten this response too! It is nice to get people that are a little jealous of you, than the snobs that say mean or stupid things! (My favorite all time stupid statement is How'd you end up with two!")

Yes it is a very common response. I had a woman tell me that she already had names picked out (she had twins in the family). If she had a boy/girl (like mine) they'd be Christopher & Christina! :D Yikes! She never had twins. She had three singletons.

I still get that comment. Just the other day a cashier at a store said that then she followed it with but I'm glad I didn't because that would be too much to handle. Too each his own I guess, but mine can entertain themselves for the most part so I can get things done where as with my oldest I had to enternain constantly.

I also was one of those people who wanted twins and was jealous of my sister. I got over it and eventually I got my set. Now if only I could have a girl! :)

Seeing that I've been huge this whole pregnancy,I've been asked the now very annoying question of when are you due &do you know what your having, through out! I do handle it nicer outwardly than I think in my mind for sure.Seeing that these babes dad is a twin,I had a vanishing twin according to my mother,my sister lost a twin in her first pregnancy,& my mother told DH when he told her last time we were having twins she wasn't surprised as my grandmother had lost a set late in pregnancy in her day, that they run on my side. However both of my sets are fraternal.I'm at the stage now where people just say "your ready to pop anytime now",or they just ask are you having twins? To whichI reply yes,& they say Iwas just kidding,& I get to say well I'm not!
Also due to this being my second set I do get alot of better you than us,I have gotten those who say they always wanted twins, and I especially like the ones who say You are so lucky, your truely doubly blessed! I did want twins with all my pregnancies,so not real disapointed. It will be hard both financially & time wise as my boys are 2 1/2,and still want all my time.I do have help with my older son who is 13,he'll be 14 on these babes due date.I also agree with those who said to get out with them as soon as possible.I continued to hike & walk around with them as much as possible.I hope to do the same with these two,I'll need a bit more help this time though! LOL Anyway good luck, and as someone else said concentrate on the positive comments.

I still get it all the time. I'm baffled because I can't figure out why anyone would dream of having twins. It never really crossed my mind.

I've gotten that comment a lot, and I agree - it's much nicer than the "better you than me." Funny thing is, having twins never even crossed my mind so it was such a shock!

Getting out of the house is a great piece of advice! My morning and afternoon walks with our little ones were the highlight of my day in the early weeks. Now, my little guys love being strapped in the Baby Bijorns and being walked around by DH and me!

    Have fun!

I have never had the "better you than me" comment. But I ALWAYS get the "I always wanted twins" comment. That is often followed by, "Yeah, I wanted a boy and a girl, and I could be done all at once." Hmmmm. Like we all get to decide that.

In my case it was my mom who has always wanted twins so she is living vicariously through me! (I have two younger brothers)

I've also had the most bizarre negative comments. I think I mentioned before that my best friend in the entire world, the one who held my hand through my infertility testing, said "I would kill myself if I found out I was having twins". For some reason, "two for the price of one" also bugs me. As if the second baby was a freebie thrown in by the fertility clinic.

I get the whole 2 for the price of one and the maybe its a girl and a boy so you'll be done...As though they automatically know I want only a girl and a boy, or just 2 kids! I have found that most people I know are really excited and positive about the twins, as I am. It's the strangers who look at you like your crazy, like you did it on purpose! I too, never thought about having twins, only after we found out it was twins, lo and behold twins run on both my maternal side and paternal side! I couldn't imagine having only one in there now, I feel so special to have two.

I used to be one of those people making that "oh I'd love to have twins" comments and agree now that I am pregnant they are much nicer to hear than the "better you than me" ones. My husband is a fraternal twin so everyone that found that out would always say to me that I must have a good shot at having twins then and I would have to explain that no, in order for me to have better chances than anyone else of concieving them it would have to run on my side, but that I wished it increased my odds because I really wanted them. I had gotten so used to explaining why, no, I wouldn't be having twins that it came as a complete shock to find out I would be. I actually used to tell people that since I didn't think I would have my own I was hoping that my husband would pass the gene on to a daughter if we had one so that I could hope for twin grandbabies. Maybe I'll get those too! :D

what's funny is, there are 4 of us pregnant at work, but i seem to get the most questions. twins seems to be so "foreign" to people. normally i don't mind questions, but i'm getting to that "cranky pregnant lady" stage, and dont really have the patience. blah.

That's so wonderful! I mostly got a lot of congratulation from people. I didn't hear alot of the horror stories that others have had to deal with. I definitely wanted twins though. :D

When I called to tell my mom I was having two boys she said, "Oh no! I mean, that's great..." Thanks a lot mom! My older sister had twin girls so I guess that's all my mom knows but seriously people?
