The boys have recently learned the fine art of sleeping past 6:30am. This has initiated a migration pattern in their nap time. We used to put them down at noon and they would wake around 2-3. Letting them sleep past 3pm (when mommy isn't around) is considered grounds for execution.

In the past few weeks they have been going down around 12:30pm and still not falling asleep until 1pm (Nick was still singing and playing 75 minutes after being put down today).

It's obvious that it's time to tweak the schedule. Just curious what time others are waking up and whether or not bedtime is affected (pushed back later) because of a later nap waking time.

    Thanks for your input.

We wake around 7:45 am, nap 1-3 and bedtime at 8. It's been this way since about 16 months old. If they sleep late in the morning or nap I do not adjust the schedule.

Twins wake btwn 7-730. Nap btn 1-3 or 130-3 usually or even 2-3 (sundays) depending on what's going on. Bedtime is btwn 8-830.

I used to worry about it more when they were younger. Now that they're almost 3, I might let them sleep longer if they've got dark circles under their eyes. but then I will try to put them to bed btwn 7-730 to get the extra hour there and not mid-day.

Our girls sleep schedules are a mess right now. I'm trying to go with the flow and see where it naturally wants to fall. It looks like we're phasing out the 2nd nap. They wake up around 7:30 or 8 PM. They play hard in the mornings and have a lot of fun, but get worn out quickly. I put them down for first nap at 11 AM. Sometimes, they're doing fine and can go longer, but 11 AM seems to be our magic number. They'll play/sleep for a couple hours and sometimes more. By 2 PM we're up and playing and ready for lunch. The problem is that they've been getting sleepy around 5 PM. That is too early for us to put them down. Sometimes I can't take the grumpiness and put them down for a short evening nap from 4:30 - 5:30 or so. Last night, they took this nap from 5 PM - 6:15 PM!! Which means they're up until 9 PM at best! They're happy and sleeping well and going down well, but they're up so late that I'm not getting much done at all! (And we're loading the moving van in less than 3 days!) - Which is another reason why I haven't been to pushy with a schedule lately. Anyway, I'm thinking once we move I'm going to try pushing the morning nap back and back until it can happen after lunch, so around noon or so. Hopefully, they'll sleep for a couple hours or more and wake up raring to go until a decent bedtime at 7:30 or so. At least I think that's what we're moving toward. :unknw:

When my guys do nap they are not aloud to sleep past 4, I wake them up. If they do sleep past 4 they are up until midnight.

Ellie is usually up between 7:30 and 9. (It used to be 8:30-9, but lately they have all been up at 7:30.) Naptime is at 2 if they wake up after 8; 1:30 if they are up earlier. I will wake them up at 5 if they aren't already up. Bedtime varies depending if I am working that night. Early bedtime if DH is getting them to bed alone, he gets up at 3am so he wants to get to bed as early as possible. Later bedtime if I am home...I want them to sleep as late as possible.

My little guys get up in the morning around 8:30. Sometimes they are up a little earlier but they stay in there cribs chatting. They then take their nap a 1 and get up around 4. Same as in the morning sometimes they are up earlier. We then go upstairs at 8 read a few books and they are down around 8:30. I do think I need to shorten their nap but with big brother not napping, it takes me longer to get things done around the house.
If they fall asleep on the way home (naptime) they usually nap later and it really messes up nighttime. But I try to stick to our normal times as much as I can.

I basically did the same with my girls as I am doing with my son, maybe with a little bit of change. My son wakes between 6-7 am, he usually goes down for nap around 12:30 (if he didn't take a morning nap which he takes about once a week) and then we wake him around 4 sometimes a little later if he was having a rough nap (he sometimes wakes up but will go back to sleep once I go in and give him a hug). Bed time for him is around 7 a little later 7:30 if he sleeps past 4.

The girls usually wake at 7 a.m., sometimes a bit later. First nap is around 10ish and normally 1-2 hours. They are still undecided ;) about nap #2, some days we take, some days we chat and play. I won't let them sleep past 5:00 if they do take that second nap. On our chat and play days I usually get them to bed at 7:30, but their normal bedtime is 8.

4:30 is the absolute latest, and that's only if they did the "fall asleep right before I was going to get them" thing or they are sick. When they sleep late, we push bedtime back to 8-8:30. Sometimes they will stay up till 9:30!

Edit - I should add that they wake 7:30-8:00ish now, and go down for nap at 1:00. Usually they wake from nap around 3:30, that is if they slept.

My girls get up around 7:30 or 8:00 as well. They go down around 1 and are usually up by 3:00. However, there are those days when they just don't want to sleep. The latest I let them sleep is 4 unless they have had no sleep for the afternoon. If my in-laws or mom comes over, they tend to let them sleep late which always pushes their bedtime back (which is at 8:00).

I voted no cut-off we have never been able to get past 11am for a naptime, mine wake at 7am, nap 11-1pm (last few days, only used to sleep for 45min..knock on wood!) and bedtime at Eight Pm. Hopefully this will last.

mine get up between 6:30 and 7:30 nap from about 1 (I put them in the cribs between 12:15 and 12:45 and they are usually asleep by 1) and they generally sleep until about 2:30 and sometimes 3 (today was till 3:15 I was amazed) but bedtime is at 8 regardless...DS can't sleep past 3:30 he has a complete and utter meltdown if he sleeps late in the afternoon!

They can sleep as late as they want in the morning (if only they would!) and for thier first nap. They have to be up by six pm at the second nap so that we can keep the 7:40 bedtime. Nowadays, they very rarely sleep that late anyway, especially since they've moved that second nap earlier recently.

My girls just turned four and if they nap AT ALL it effects their bedtime. So, even if they fall aslep in the car on the way home from the grocery store for 10 minutes, they will be up until at least 11pm. (Not to mention they are MONSTERS when I wake them up from a nap). Rhey would nap everyday if I let therm, but it would be around 4 or 5 pm- NO WAY! Bedtime is between 7 and 7:30, awake in the morning between 5:30-6:30am.

Crap...now I'm TOTALLY thrown for a loop!

So today they didn't fall asleep until nearly 2pm, so I let them sleep until just after 3:30...I was totally expecting them to be wired and need to stay up later. I'll be damned if they didn't literally BEG to go to bed 20 minutes EARLIER than normal.

    What gives?

We put them down for naps around 1, and I wake them at 4 if necessary. If they fall asleep before 1:30, they rarely sleep past 4, but sometimes it takes them awhile to fall asleep and then I do have to wake them up.

I've never actually tested it to see how long they would sleep, or whether it would ruin bedtime. But we're insistent about getting them in bed for the night by 7:30 (7:45 at the latest, or 8:00 if we've been out), and it just doesn't seem like enough awake time if they aren't up by 4:00.

So I voted "no," naptime doesn't affect bedtime, but that's because we just put them down anyway, even if they aren't tired. If they barely nap at all (rare on weekends), we try to put them down a little earlier, but aren't always successful.

I wake them up 3.15/3.30 pm at the latest (they go down at 1 pm) in order to secure bed time at 6.30/7.00 pm at the latest. They usually wake up by themselves around 3 pm. I don't want my children to go to bed too late, so then I can't just let them sleep until whenever they want. I will adjust their bed time based on their nap, their mood, etc. It will be closer to 6.15 pm if needed and otherwise close to 6.30/6.45 pm sometimes even 7 pm if they do really well (and took a nice nap).

My girls are strict routine girls. Their choice really. If their sleep patterns gets messed up I have very cranky little ones the next day too. So I keep to their time schedules.

MY 2 get up at 6.45 most mornings and go down at 1.30 . They usually sleep 2 hours maybe a little more so are usually up by 3.30/4.00 at the latest. I dont let them sleep past 4pm as i like them to go bed at 7pm . I dont like making their bedtime any later as they can be so grumpy by then and mucks up the next day x

Yours sound like my two as well. They have lunch between 12-12:30, usually in bed right around 12:30-1. I let them play for about a 1/2 hour, if they don't fall asleep, then I'll go into their room to read a book and settle them down. Usually by the time I'm done reading they've fallen asleep and then I get them back up between 3 and 4. Never let them sleep past 4, grounds for execution around here too. That was funny!

Don't be fooled by the sweet grins and giggles... Their goal is to drive you crazy

"Other"... I won't put them down after 2:30. If they aren't napping by 3, they aren't taking a nap that day. T&T are typically up at 6:30ish, in bed for nap at 11:30, and asleep by 12. I don't leave them for all that long to try to go to sleep, though, because they get into trouble. They can try to settle for 30 minutes, I'll peek and if nobody is naked, they can try for 30 more. After that, I get them up and try to run them past the point of overtired into the realm of exhaustion. If I succeed at the second nap attempt, they will often nap for 2 hours instead of the regular 1.5. I put them down for bed at their regular time and it might take them a little longer to settle but not much.

I like them to be up from nap by 4:00pm because they are usually in bed before 9:00pm. Sometimes I adjust their bedtime but not to often. I was blessed with good sleepers.

mine get up around 7, and get put down for their nap at 1. if they fall asleep before 1:30, i get them up at 3 (i ALWAYS have to wake them up). if they are playing and having a hard time falling asleep, and fall asleep after 1:30, then i let them sleep until 3:15 or 3:30. if they don't fall asleep by 2:15 (usually this is cameron - alisha can not live without her nap but cam is fine without it some days) then i get him and don't let him sleep. I NEVER EVER EVER let them sleep past 3:30 or they won't fall asleep at night. they usually go to bed at 7:15/7:30 - if we go out or if they napped late and don't seem tired i let them stay up until 7:45/ 8.

my biggest issue is that cam can be soooooooooooo cranky when i get him up from his nap - esp if he fell asleep late - he doesn't want to get up and needs major cuddle time before he's ready to go - sometimes it takes a good hour after i get him up for him to get over himself.

Congratulations on getting them to sleep later in the morning!

Ours have two different schedules depending on whether it's the week (childminder) or weekend. They always wake before 6.15. During the week they nap for two hours from either 1.30 or 2.00. Bedtime is usually 7.30 ish. Weekend's they tend to sleep longer in the afternoon, for anywhere up to 3 hours, partly because they don't have to be woken for me to collect them at 4 and partly because they run around outdoors all morning and exhaust themselves. We wake them by around 5 pm usually and they'll go to bed anytime until 9 pm but usually earlier. The problem is that they wake at the same time even if they sleep at 9 pm so we just have cranky kids the next day.

At daycare during the week, they get a maximum of a 2 hour nap (1-3). On the weekends, I try to put them down at 1. My son has a nap curfew of 3 hours because he will sleep forever. My daughter generally sleeps no more than 2.5 hours during her naptime. They go to bed between 8:30 and 9 everyday.
