When we were at the twins 6month apt she asked if we had flouride in our water I told her yes, anyway I finally got around to calling the Water company and they do not addd flouride. The pedi wants to give them a supplement. My oldest DD's pedi never asked about flouride and has never talked about giving a supplement. SO WWYD I know there is some controversial info on Flouride and it not being good for you, is 8 months to young to give it?

    Thanks

My pedi at their 6mo appt. gave us flouride vitamin drops to give them once a day in their bottles. I feel that she knows what she is talking about, and they haven't had any problems.

I used the flouride water while the girls were on formula. Now we use the vitamins w/flouride. It is really a good thing, as long as you aren't giving them too much. It is recommended for all kids.

We use nursery water for their bottles - it has fluoride in it.

We started fluoride at 6 months. That is the recommended age from the ADA (American Dental Association). FYI - You are supposed to avoid eating and drinking (including water) for 30 minutes afterward in order to aid in the absorption. The directions, our dentist, and pediatrician all told us that it is best taken at least 2 hours before or after taking dairy products. Otherwise there will be a decrease in the effectiveness.

I do not give my girls fluoride I don't feel its a necessity and it could cause more harm then good. Please do some resource before you give it, don't just do it because a doctor told you to. This is a personal decision, and you need to be comfortable with it either way. Here are a couple of websites with some info, good luck with you decision.

I made their formula with nursery water, which contains fluoride, from 6-12 months. At 12 months, when they switched to whole milk, I started giving a fluoride supplement. Had I not used the nursery water then I'd have started the fluoride supps at 6 months.

I have to agree. With my oldest we did drops.....for the rest of my kiddos I have not. All of my kids have awesome teeth...never a cavity, never any issues!! So...did the drops make any difference to her teeth over the others...no!!
