do you get 2 of the same thing?

for some things we got two of the same thing, just different colors, like bumbos and my puppy pals...however my mom and step dad bought the babies the exact same toy (a huge fisher price surprise block town thing) so that "they wouldn't fight" over it...um, huh? aside from the fact that the toy is too old for them (yeah it says 6 months, it's more like 9 months and up...at least sitting on their own and doing a little scootching and picking things up and moving them, all things these two aren't doing yet)...so do you get 2 of the exact same thing or do you get one of one thing and one of another? personally, we do different but similar...we have 2 learning tables stashed in the basement, they are different tables (one is leap frog, one we got from my sister, both carry overs from izzy), as they get older we'll get similar but different too...

WE get two of some things, but nothing exactly the same. Over x-mas some people gave us the exact same toy also---and I thought--that's weird. They have to learn to share and I'm not going to give them each the same thing. For certain things...like those riding car things--we got two, but they are very different w/ different features. I think for th big things, it makes sense to get two of the same or similar--but for basic toys, I don't see the point, and personally don't think it's the best idea. I also have to admit...right now, they have a couple of favorite toys and when one has it...the other goes after it---and I love it!! They are too cute when they are interacting--even if it is to steal toys from each other :)

We have bought two of (or a second one of stuff we had) small items, like the sesame street remote. I bought two of the fisher price books and two of the phones for them for christmas, stuff to keep in the diaper bag. I also bought two teethers because I couldn't find 2 different ones I thought they'd use so they are the same. For the most part though, they get one to share.

They do fight over toys, heck, today they were fighting over a water bottle! They are going to fight, they do need to learn how to share, but I don't mind buying two of items that cost me $5 apiece or something :)

I would return one of the block town things (BTW, they WILL enjoy it soon, my twins love theirs) and either find something else they might enjoy/need, or save the money for when they get older.

Oh, we are planning to get them seperate ride on toys for their birthday, both similar but one pink and one yellow :)

When they were babies and didn't know whose was whose anyway, we didn't have two of anything. Even if you have two identical, they will still fight over the same one. Better to just have lots of different stuff! We also never had two of anything big (except bouncy seats and exersaucers) because we just don't have the space.

From toddlers on up, we still have lots of things that there is only one of, and they learn to take turns & share. But if we do have two of whatever, I try to always get different colors or something. If there are two identical, they both claim that the one in plain sight is theirs. If one is blue and one is red, everyone knows whose is whose, and they rarely try to claim each other's things.

Heck, we don't even have two of those! We, too, are limited on space and they always get bored on whatever "equipment" we put them in after a little while, anyway, so we just rotate them round and round on all of the different stuff.

Good food for thought on the color differentiation later on! I'll definitely be tucking that one in my brain for future reference!

We always have, and still do, get two of the EXACT same of EVERYTHING. It's a rule. It has to be this way or my boys will fight all day long for the "other one". Seriously. I'm not kidding. Two of everything!!

We're like Danielle. Two of little things, but in different colors (or animals). For the big things we just did one. One jumperoo, one swings, one bumbo, one play kitchen, one ride on, one train table, one learning table, etc. We had two Oballs, two stuffed monkies, two play cell phones, two mini magna doodles (actually, we have 4 of those...2 for the car, 2 for the house),etc.

I would def. return one of the block sets. They can play it together. They won't fight over the set, just the blocks.

I agree. Sometimes my kids get totally opposite things and other times they get two of the same thing in different colors. What cracks me up is even if they get the same thing (just different colors or slightly different) they like to play with each other's toys. Buying two of the same thing does not always eliminate arguing in this house :nea: and I think sometimes it depends on who likes to needle who at that moment.

I know exactly what silly town thing you are talking about. I was going to get one for Ty but decided it really didnt do much for the money I was going to pay so we passed all together. That said I dont buy 2 of the same exact thing but i do buy 2 similar items. For Christmas the boys wanted Trio sets so they each got a set but they were totally different.

Unless its something I KNOW they are both going to use all the time like their computers I NEVER buy 2 of the same thing. Hopefully you can exchange one of the sillytowns for something else.

I would return one too. We do get two of some things, if I know it's things that will get fought over or things that they can do together (bikes, etc.) but things like the block set, we would just have one & they would share. It's actually good for them to share some things, it's a life skill that I think twins learn earlier, out of necessity, than most babies.

Sometimes, it just depends on what it is. Some of their outfits are matching exactly, some are matching but different colors. Sometimes I dress them completely differently. I never buy two of the same toys because quite frankly, they are too young to fight over toys. We do have two of the same highchairs. We have two different jumperoos, two different colored bumbos. I'm not sure that I'll buy two same toys as they get older or just teach them to share and enjoy a wider variety of toys. We'll have to see how their personalities are then.

We have the same swings, bouncy chairs, highchairs, and clothes are mostly same thing different color. But for toys, we have nothing the same. We have an exersaucer, a jumperoo, and like thousands of little toys. They do seem to like the same kind of toys best, but I would rather have a bigger variety.

we returned them both, we just don't have the room for something that large in our living room (where all kiddos 2 and under play, the upstairs is for 2 and up ONLY) and got the bumbos with the exchange...i mean, we'll barely have room for 2 exersaucers..as it is, the papa san will have to move out of the living room to make room for that..i'm on the lookout for a 2nd exersaucer (abbey isn't quite ready for one yet, she can put weight on her legs, but she isn't actively doing it all the time the way jack is) that is different than the one we have (we have a farm one) so that they can have the variety...i know that with them being b/g that as they get older, they'll tastes will veer apart...i just couldn't understand buying something that large in the same thing...when we get our post-infant carrier car seats, it'll be the same thing (we are going with the graco nautilus) just in different colors (we're getting pink for abbey so dad will automatically know which one has the straps set for each kid) and our bumbos are in different colors and our carriers are in different colors...i did get them the same rattles and teethers as christmas gifts, just in different colors..the same with the my puppy pals...
