do you change them in the night?

When you babies wake for a middle of the night feeding - do you change their diaper? I generally do. But I'm wondering because it seems to wake them up so much. If I don't change them, then I can just feed them and put them back down and they go back to sleep easily (most of the time). But if I change them then they are wide awake. But if I don't change them, then they are completely soaked the next time they wake up.

(if it matters - we are cloth diapering)

    what do you do?

    thanks!

I usually change them at the 2:30 feeding as it's been 4-6 hours and they are soaked. At the 5:30 feeding I leave them go b/c I know they will be up by 6:30-7 for the day and I change them before they get dressed. I try to do it before the bottle too so they have a chance to drift back to sleep.

When mine were little if they woke to eat then I did change them then too, in the dark and didn't say anything to them (sometimes that was hard).

I did change mine at every feeding but usually did it before nursing unless they pooped during the feed which often happened!! Once mine stopped having a bowel movement at every feed, I started double diapering, heavy duty desitin and they didn't get changed.

I don't have my twins yet (I'm 21 weeks now), but with both of my other 2 kids, I cloth diapered and never changed them at night unless they had soaked through or had a poopy diaper. They didn't seem to mind, and never got a rash from doing that way. I usually double diapered or added a liner or doubler for nighttime so they wouldn't get so wet though. Another trick to help keep their skin drier overnight that I used was to get a large piece of fleece fabric from the fabric store (cheap, cheap, cheap if you look in the remnant section) and cut into rectangular pieces and use as a liner in the dipes. It wicks the moisture away from their skin and can still be tossed in the wash with the rest of the diapers.

    Good luck! :)

I would change them if they were really wet... I never had issues with soaking through so if they needed it i did and kept it dark and never talked much or propped their bottle in the ole mouth while doing it... They slept in the PnP till 3 months...

i changed mine until they were a bit older and not pooping as much. when they were that young they had a BM at every feeding so we had no choice. once they were down to only 1 night feeding we stopped changing them and now they sleep through so they are SOAKED when they wake up. i never knew a pee diaper could smell soooo bad. i have mistaken it for more several times!

We change them before they eat, at every feeding. We figure they're already awake, so then they can just go right back to sleep once they're done eating. They also have really sensitive skin, so we can't let them go too long without changing them.

I only change at night if it is poopy. Could you do disposables just at night? Would that make a difference on how soaked they are?

Hey, cool, we CD too! :)

I do change them at every night feeding, usually halfway through the feeding. It wakes them up enough to keep eating and get full.

i changed them at every feeding even in the middle of the night. we didn't use cloth diapers, so don't know if there is a difference. until they slept through the night...that is when those night diaper changing days were over.

I tried both - if I changed them they'd go back to sleep pretty quickly, if I didn't they always peed through their clothes....b/c they were eating more- they peed more. Now that they don't eat in the middle of the night they're fine.

I would nurse, change, and put them back to the breast to relax them again if needed (they went poop while feeding frequently at that age). I CD also and once they started dropping night feeds, I put them in doublers and slathered them in A&D before bed to help them get through with dry jammies and clear skin.

I used to change them every time they woke up - now only if they are really wet (or poopy of course!)

I did change the girls but I didn't change Dax. With the girls I used disposables at that age and with Dax I have cloth. What kind of cloth are you using at night? I had success with a Happy Heiny solid pocket stuffed with a hemp stuffin, 2 extra ovals, and a microfiber on top. Wool covers are often really good overnight as well.

A few weeks ago I changed before every feeding. After going through several diapers due to poop while feeding, I began doing it about 2/3 of the way through the feeding. I'll leave 1/2 ounce left for them to have and it usually puts them back into "milk coma" as DH likes to call it.

We changed them first, then fed, burped and back to bed. All of this was done in the dark without really interacting with them.
