I had none with my first (singleton) pregnancy. Last night, around 4am,I woke with a stabbing pain on my left side and it came in waves. When I rolled over and rested on my left side, it went away. I've had nothing since and honestly, i think it emanated from the way I was laying. Should I have called my OB this morning or since it was a 5-10 minute episode, I am ok with not calling?

You should call if you have more than 5-6 contractions within an hour.

    :good:

My doc wanted me to hydrate and lay down on my left for an hour first. If after that I still had 6+ contractions in an hour, then they want to be called.

this is my first pregnancy so anything that i don't know what's going on or appears as a symptom of preterm labor i am heading to labor and delivery triage while calling the doctor in the car on the way there. with this being so new to me and never having felt contractions before every little things gets attention. i've been to triage 2 times in 3 weeks and both were false alarms...the first was "irritable uterus" so i was contracting and the second was for ligament pain (stabbing pain in the lower right pelvic region)

as i always say, it's better to be safe than sorry. if you are concerned, call you doctor asap. it will give you piece of mind, calm you down and reassure your babies that everything will be ok when the professionals tell you not to worry.

    that's my opinion anyway.b

This is what my OB advised as well. I hope you don't get anymore.

My ob has always told me that if I have contractions I should drink some water and lie down. If they go away, then it's nothing.

My OB wanted me to call if I had more than 5-6 an hour for 2 hours in a row.

I had that the other night too... not a sharp pain but one that felt like I was getting squeezed around the middle. It happened like 4 times...each time I would switch to the other side. So I got up and sat down for a while and drank some water and it went away. I did have some cramping a few weeks ago and did call the doctor the next day to let her know... they had me come in and check me and I was fine. No changes. The next time I had a little bit of cramping I didn't bother calling as my appointment was in a few days. At that appointment again nothing was chainging. I was able to make the cramping go away by switching sides or getting up or moving around so I'm not too worried about it. I've also stopped using the stairs and night and moved the bed to a different part of the house so I don't have far to go to the bathroom. It seems to help.

I think if I had some pain I couldn't get to go away that I would certainly call...but if I can get it to go away fairly quickly I'm not going to worry about it and just assume that it's braxton hicks. If I have the 6 or so in an hour I'd be sure to go in and get checked.
