Do you buy your kids multiple of a toy?

Not sure how to state this topic.

I'm asking about when they have a toy that they love and play with a lot. For my girls, it's the Disney Princesses that are the size/shape of Barbies. Any time they have a choice for a toy, they pick one of those. Now they have all of them, but when they did a list to Santa, guess what was the first thing on Amelia's list? Princess Barbie set including Merida.

They play with those dolls all the time, but they already have all of them.

I could buy them the set from the Disney store, which is a little bit different than the ones they already have. But really pretty much the same thing.

Do you buy your kids multiple of the same item?

The only thing I can think of are the magnatiles. They got four sets of 32. The 100 piece set wasn't available each time. Princesses, I may be inclined to get the one that is similar. At least there would be a bit of a difference I guess.

And I find it's hard when there is one specific thing on their Christmas list, to say no. I asked for three things from Santa, and explained that they won't necessarily get all three(but all three are rather reasonable, so it could be doable).

I'm no help, am I?!?! LOL!

    Yes, depends on the item.

Just to buy two-- no. But something they both want and it just happens to be the same thing, yes.

They way I look at it, we have a trillion 'Barbie' barbie dolls since almost every 'kit' comes with the blonde current model of the original barbie. I make it a point to try to get redheads, brunettes, and other ethnicities than 'caucasian' barbie dolls.

We have several Ariels of varying types and two Tiana dolls. Both are similar, but different models.

Mine also LOVE the Only Hearts Club Dolls. They are easier to dress and have posable bodies, but are about the same size as barbie dolls so fit in our wooden dollhouse made for 12" dolls-- but they have soft bodies that are more in line with the shape of tween girls not adults, and age appropriate clothes. They also have a whole line of accessories & pets, etc.

These and the 'Disney" barbies are my girls favorties rather than the more generic barbie line.

^^^^ This is me as well.

When it comes to Christmas lists, my kids only put a few things on them (now that they are writing the lists themselves). I generally try to buy the things they have asked for, especially when it's what they ask Santa for (Santa only brings them one present, the rest are from us or family).

I guess my thought is if this is the only, or one of just a couple, things on her list, I would buy it for her; regardless of whether you already own a similiar toy or if sister has the same thing.

I agree with everyone...they have a ton of Barbies because they love Barbies. When they were into Disney princesses, they got a ton of those. But other things, like games and such, no, I don't buy 2.

Yes, my girls also have a ton of Barbies. One of my DDs is a huge Ariel fan, so she's gotten individual Ariel Barbies and we have sets of Barbies that included Ariel. Plus my 10 year old niece used to love Ariel, so we have hand me downs from her too. My other daughter likes Tiana, so we have an individual Tiana as well as one from a set. I think, at least with Barbies, they all get played with. There are plenty to go around if they have a group of friends over to play (which we have a total of 7 Barbie playing aged girls within sight of/living at our house).

Other things we have a lot of would be Legos.

Yeah, they have a lot of Barbies b/c each Barbie is something is different. But right now they have 1 cinderella, 1 sleeping beauty, etc. So they'll have two of each of those now. They play with them though, so in my opinion it's worth it. Now they'll each have each of the princesses I guess.
