Both the girls are now able to roll onto their stomachs, and while I don't like them sleeping that way I don't think I can prevent it unless I stand guard in their room all night. My question is has anyone noticed that their babies sleep better on their tummies? My DS took a 1 1/2 hour nap today (totally unheard of in our house) and I think it might have been because she was sleeping on her tummy for the first time.

You're right, once they can roll there really isn't anything you can do to stop them. But once they can roll and have more head/neck control they are safe sleeping that way. My kids have alwsy slept better on their tummies than on their backs.

Mine definitely sleep better on their tummies. They are both tummy sleepers since about 6 months old.

My girls sleep way better on their tummies. They wouldn't sleep on their backs at all, so out of sheer desperation I flipped over on their tummies at 5 weeks and they started sleeping 8 hrs a night. Now that they are getting older they either sleep on their tummies or on their side.

YES!!! I am so happy. At first I kept checking to see if they were okay and now I just wait for them to tell me when they wanna get up. It's great!

If they can roll into that position all should be fine!

Mine liked their tummies better, they did definitely sleep better that way.

My one dd always slept better on her tummy. I started letting her nap on her tummy when she was about 4 months old but only when I was right there to keep an eye. Then when she rolled onto her tummy on her own, I let her sleep that way all the time. I would say she sleeps on her tummy about 95% of the time. My other dd ALWAYS wanted to sleep on her back and hated to be put to sleep on her tummy. Within the past few weeks however, whenever I go in to check on her during naps and during the night, she is almost always on her tummy. She had a pretty big round belly for the first 10 months which has started to thin out since she started crawling so I'm figuring that it wasn't comfortable for her before with her tummy in the way ;)

My girls are tummy sleepers too. HATED being on their back. I think it was from the NICU where they always had them on their side. So since they started rolling they have been total tummy sleepers.

Once I let mine sleep on their tummies it was like the sleep fairy arrived!!!

My boys have always slept well on their tummies, once they could roll they would flip over and saw logs. My dd prefers to sleep on her back, she never slept good on her tummy. She is a chunky little thing though.

my twins always loved sleeping on their tummies, i was fine with it them but now with bub number 3 im really scared, she already liked lying on her stomach even though she cant hold her head up for more than 3 seconds yet. i keep her on her back/side as much as possible.

For the longest time I would be getting up 4-5 times a night to soothe Sarah back to sleep, until I discovered she preferred sleeping on her tummy. And even though she wasn't rolling yet, I let her sleep on her tummy so I could get a bit of rest. Dougie sleeps great on his back with his arms flung out above his head, he's not a tummy sleeper.

Definitely better at our house. DS started a couple months ahead of DD. Now I just put them in bed sitting up and they lay whatever way they want to. It's really fabulous that they can scoot around and snuggle up with a blanket and fall asleep.

Just as I suspected...they're napping right now, I'm tempted to go in and flip them onto their tummies!! ;)

Yep! As soon as mine could roll over they certainly slept better on their stomachs. Of course they never stayed on their backs after that milestone anyway.

Yes, as soon as mine learned to roll over onto their tummies they prefer to sleep that way. Occasionally, my DS will sleep on his side, but my DD is always on her stomach with her rear in the air!
