Do the Dr Browns really help with spit up?

I'll try anything!!!! We used the Avents and they were awful. We use the evenflo comfi now and the girls like them but the spit up is RIDICULOUS! I know nothing will make it go away entirely but I'm looking for things that will help. I tried thickening the bottles and that did nothing. Running out of ideas and swimming in spit-up! [IMG]

I started off using the Platex Drop-in Nursers with the twins, which is what I have used with all of my kids. Everybody raved about Dr. Brown's, so I gave them a try. We are still using them, but mainly because of the y-cut nipples and how well they work with the cereal. I think they do help some with them swallowing less air.

Dr. Brown bottles have been wonderful. We tried Avent too, and they leaked and caused DD to be so gassy! Then when the twins came we just went straight to the Dr. Brown's when they came home from NICU. However, both babies have reflux. DS has it in the form of burning in his throat and puking. DD has it in a much different form that was hard for me to recognize as she rarely spits up. She would only take two oz. at a time and no more. She couldn't finish a bottle ever. She didn't cry in pain or show any signs other than not eating a full bottle. Finally the dr. said to try Zantac and within 48 hours she was taking full bottles. She was 5-6 months when she was diagnosed. Could that be an issue for you?

Dr. Brown's definitely make it easier and totally eliminate gas! They are expensive, but worth it!

Dr. Browns were hassle to clean and leak a lot. VentAir works just as well, much cheaper and less work. But Drop-ns are the best when you get over the spit-up stage.

I never had good luck with them so we have used the cheapest things we have found like Evenflo, Gerber etc. Recently we got two Podees and I have to say I used it twice today and Kevin who spits too (but not as much as Patrick) didn't spit up either time. Something to think about I guess. Got them at Noss Galen baby online.

I agree with previous post. they have pros and cons. Dr Browns bottles have so many parts and are hard to keep clean. My twins are 6 months old and we still use them because the flow of milk is just right for them. I tried switching to other bottles, but they either get it too fast or too slow, so we're sticking with the Dr Browns even though they are a pain in the butt to clean. My kids still got gassy and still continued to spit up with them.

We actually had a different experience with the dr. brown's. My boys were so fussy the full 2 days that we used them that I had to stop using them. I haven't tried them again because I never want to deal with what we went through again, but, different bottles work for different people, so, maybe they will work for you. We are now using Evenflo and aren't having any problems.

I didn't see an improvement with spit-up using the Dr. Brown bottles. I was buying every bottle to see if it helped, but so far have found nothing and spent too much $$ on bottles I don't use. So I'm just gonna work with what I have (Gerber/Evenflo/Playtex) and hope that Douglas grows out of it. But until then, we'll go thru lots of bibs/burpcloths & outfits and I'll only wear my nice shirts (bring an extra) when going out.

Thanks all! I guess we'll just keep swimming! Do any of you not put the babies in their cute clothes b/c you know it'll be decorated within minutes? It's so hard to keep them clean...and me too! Sometimes we outgrow our cute clothes only wearing them once b/c I don't want to put it on around the house b/c of spit up. Oh well, maybe we just need to go more places to wear the cute stuff!
