I don't see a peri either. My ob has delivered many sets of twins. She said she sends anyone with triplets or more to a peri but with a normal twin pregnancy it really is not necessary. I think it all depends on your doctor's experience with multiples. For me I am glad that I only have 1 doctor to see. It makes things less confusing for me! Good luck!

I only saw my OB until my pregnancy became very high risk at 24 weeks and then I was referred to a Perinatologist, but I still saw my regular OB as well.

I saw a peri because my boys were mono/di so they were monitored for TTTS . Also my advanced maternal age <_< had me going to the peri. Every OB is different.

I've seen a peri since around 12 weeks. He works hand in hand with my OB. My OB is more focused on my health and the peri is more focused on the health of the girls although they do, of course, over-lap. I've enjoyed having both of them involved, but I'm also pretty high risk so seeing double doctors is reassuring.

I see a perinatalist because I am over 30 and twins are automatically considered high risk. I only see her until a certain period of development and then I'll only see the OB, who delivers many twins, but never triplets or more. Anyway, I was thinking peri ment "multiple doctor" but it actually means high risk. One advantage is that the equipment is superior to that in my OB's office, so I look forward to those appointments because they get very specific with baby measurements and cervix measurements.

I never saw one. Depends on your circumstances and your Doctor's level of twin experience.
    Good luck though.

I started seeing a PERI because they thought our girls where mo/mo. Around 20 weeks, they finally found a membrane, but have yet to see it again. (They kept a picture in my file, so they know it exsists!) When I switched DR's completely, when I decided to be seen on Base (my hubby is Army) if you are high risk you automatically see one, and they are the ONLY one you see.

I see both the OB and the Peri. But, my OB only sent me to the Peri because I asked for a Level II u/s and the Peri office was the one to do it. But, the Peri told me that they will see me and do an u/s once a month until the end of my pregnancy (normal practice for them with twin moms) and that I will start going to them weekly at 32 weeks for MBPP (modified bio-physical profiles). At my last OB appointment the OB stated the in the report that the peri sent it said that I only needed to be seen if indicated, but 30 min earlier, when I was at my Peri appt., the Peri told me to schedule another u/s a month out. Basically, my OB said that I don't have to see them anymore, but I am going to keep the u/s every month anyway. It's just more reassuring to me.

I really think every OB is different in their approach to twins. I just feel more comfortable being looked over by both.

    I HTH!

I have been seeing a Peri since 17 weeks when we found out we are expecting twins. I have been going every four weeks for a growth scan. I still see my OB for regular prenatal appointments.

I started seeing a peri as soon as we knew we were having twins(at 10 weeks) because I have really bad high blood pressure. I love my peri, he is awesome!!!

I saw my OB and a Peri right from the start, just because I was having twins, no other reason, I was not high risk, except for having twins. It made me feel better because the Peri was more specialized with twins/triplets etc. Plus they did a growth u/s at every visit and that was nice. :good:
