Do I need another stroller?

Hey ladies...popping in from the Second Year with a quick question about strollers. My mom insists that we need to buy two inexpensive umbrella strollers. She thinks they will be useful when they kiddos are older and need a break from walking when we are out places.

I am not so sure...we currently have a BOB that we love. Sure, it is big and bulky, but it works for our current needs. So, do you think we should consider a couple of single umbrella strollers to use when they are older??

    Thanks!

We bought umbrella strollers for a trip when they were almost 3. We used them on that trip, and that was probably the only time I ever did. I used my DuoGlider until I gave up using a stroller when the boys were a bit over 3. If you are comfortable with the big stroller, I don't see a reason to buy umbrella's "just because". At the same time, you will find people on the boards who have many strollers, and that works for them.

I agree with Sharon. We bought two single umbrella strollers last summer for when we went on a trip (less bulkier then our Bob) and that is about the only time we've used them. I think we might have also used them two other times to go shopping but that's about it. It's really up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

We're still going strong with only the Bob. I almost bought a lightweight stroller (or two umbrellas, I hadn't decided) for a trip back East to see my family, but I didn't and I'm so glad I didn't waste the money. We gate checked our Bob just fine and it was so nice to have a good stroller to bring to the zoo out there. So I'm with everyone else; no need to get another stroller or strollers!

ETA: Oh, I just thought of something. Your mom thinks you need two lightweight strollers to give your kids a break when they're tired of walking. So does that mean she thinks that you would push two empty strollers around the zoo just in case they get tired? Or would you just bring one? If you just brought one, what if both of them got tired? Having a double stroller as backup makes tons more sense. You're only pushing one empty stroller if your kids are walking, and you can use one side for carrying things (diaper bag, picnic lunch, etc.) if one of your kids is tired and the other still wants to walk.

We only have the Bob, and still use it sometimes. Usually when we're out with the kids they walk. If they need a break, we'll carry them a bit, or if I'm on my own, they take turns getting carried. Better yet, we just sit down for a bit. Also, many places where it would even be an issue have double strollers to rent - at the zoo, for example, you can rent a double stroller for a couple bucks.

We bought an inexpensive umbrella during one trip and the girls HATED it. Its very uncomfortable for them, so I would say save your money. We are almost done using strollers all together (except for walks around the neighborhood) because they walk very well everywhere.

I never had a Bob, but it seems like the opinion is to stick with it. We use the cheap umbrella strollers occasionally, but I don't know that I would waste the money on them.

We only have one umbrella stroller, and we only used it occasionally (when one baby/toddler was home sick from daycare and the other wasn't, or during that phase when I couldn't carry them both from the car to daycare).

Sarah actually LOVES the single stroller. But I think that's because it reminds her of the rapturous times when she's home sick and gets to be alone with Mommy all day.

Other than that, we're still using our Mountain Buggy double, and my kids are 4 (though I fear they'll be too big for it by the summer -- sigh -- it will mean a massive adjustment in our lifestyle).

Yes, this exactly! Even if the kids are walking most of the time, one double stroller is much easier to push than two singles, and more useful too.

the umbrellas are so cheap that it's not going to kill you to have them. i haven't used any kind of stroller for months--but my guys never liked being in one. i still use the ergo and a shopping cart if we are shopping, and the wagon if we go much further than across the street. but i do have a couple umbrellas and i imagine we might take them w/us if we go somewhere like the zoo where there's tons of walking but we don't want to lug a big stroller around for the odd moment that one of the guys wants to sit down. in fact, we have a single peg perego and they've been known to sit on each other's laps in it;).

    gl!

I would have never used them. I have only used the jogger since they were 2, and if you have a BOB I think you are all set. I rarely, rarely use a stroller.

I have a BOB and love it. I also have a DuoGlider, but I choose the BOB every time. Personally, I'd never use two umbrella strollers because I'm almost always alone with my kids. If you will have someone with you a lot of the time, it might be worth it... but honestly, I think it's hard to beat a BOB! :)
