I put the girls down for a nap at 1pm. They were both awake 40 minutes later...talking, smiling, kicking legs, etc. I gave them their binki's 3 times and they are not falling back to sleep. Juliet started whining like she wanted to come out. Do I take them out of their cribs or keep them in their for the 2 hours???

I've never been able to 'force' my kids to sleep longer than they normally do. A two-hour nap in this household is almost unheard of. I would say if they wake up, they are ready to get up... but in my household that is the case.

My DS never sleeps during the day longer than an hour!? He is constantly "running" with his little legs and smiling...while his sister sleeps the day away! ha I let him run for awhile, pick him up, walk around with him, etc. until he is ready for a nap. I would do what your gut tells you to do. Or, just a bunch of different things each day. jen
I'm the opposite... I let them whine a bit (even cry)...it usually will only last 5-10 minutes and they are back asleep. I keep them in for 1 1/2 hours.
I'v heard that if they have been sleeping for longer than 30-45mins that it will be less likely they will fall back asleep. That being said if mine awaken before 1hr I give them 10mins to see if they will fall back asleep. Kristi Molly and Zach almost 7 months
Wesley only naps for about 45 mins at a time. I don't try to force the issue. That would only frustrate both of us.
Our babies nap for 1.5-2 hours in the morning and for 1.5 hours in the afternoon. However, some days they just wake up after 30-45 minutes. I can tell they just don't want to sleep, so I don't force it. It happens more with my daughter than my son. They still seem to do ok and go to bed fine. Mona
At that age, I would give them 15 minutes and then get them up. They rarely napped longer than 45 minutes. At around 7 months, their naps started getting longer, and once they were usually sleeping at least an hour, I started leaving them in the crib for the full hour. Now (almost 14 months) they usually sleep about 2 hours. And I did almost nothing to make this happen -- it's just maturity -- so hang in there!

I started going crazy when mine where not napping for long, or napping at different times. You need some time to yourself to be a healthy mom. I read all the books and got tough! Teh girls nap in seperate rooms now so they do not wake each other. They take 1.5-2 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the afternoon now. It took me one week of letting them cry to get into this schedule. I don't let them cry more than 10 minutes, but they normally stop before then. For that week, I made sure to be home every day for naps, as musch as I needed to run errands or whatever. My life-style is SO improved. I am not back to work, and without this schedule, I am not sure if anyone would have been able to watch them but me!
