Hi - I'm just wondering if all twin pregnanices end up with bedrest, and at what point do you usually have to go on bedrest? Is there an average timeframe when it's typically reocmmended? Can you sit up and work during bedrest? I work from home in my home office. I don't get up much... I suppose I could move the computer, etc. to my bed, but anyhow... I'm just wondering about the whole thing.

    Any advise/info is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Not all twin pregnancies necessarily equal bed rest, but I started at 24 weeks due to shortened cervix. Some women have high bp, contractions, pre-e, etc. Everyone is different.

My singleton pregnancy ended up on bedrest, but my twin one, which followed, did not. As far as what you are allowed to do, there are different variations of bedrest. Some you are only allowed to sit up and get up to go to the bathroom. Others are more lenient. It all depends on your situation and what your dr. tells you to do.

NO- I know at least 6 other twin moms in the area and three have ended up on bed rest from 24 weeks on to 30 weeks. Its just the luck of the draw in many cases unless you have some pre existing issues that put you at high risk for preterm labor. I worked until the day my water broke - 35.1. I didnt eat anything special or sit around very much. We even went on a trip to Toronto when I was about 24 wks and walked the city for hours at a time - boy did my hips hurt by the end of the day. I would just live life normally and see how things go. Some docs talk bedrest at a specific time independedt of any medical reason. If that is your doctor - i would get a diff doctor. Good luck!

No, I did not end up on bedrest. I stopped working at about 28-29 weeks, but that was because of the commute, not the work. I went to just over 37 weeks.

I worked at my job until the day before my scheduled c-section at 38 weeks!!! That is 43 hours a week! I :bow2: to anyone who had to do bedrest.. just laying there would have bored me silly!

I was waddling around town up until the day my water broke - never one day of bedrest here! The doctor told me to stop working at 34 weeks b/c I was staring to dilate, but that's it.

Everything about my pregnancy was going just fine up until one day at 27 weeks when I had to go to L&D for a lot of contractions. I was put on bed rest that day (even though my cervix was long and closed). I took 2 more trips to L&D for contractions, but they were able to stop them easily. Then one day I went in for a regular appt, and I was 100% effaced and 3 cm dilated (29w6d). I was immediately admitted to the hospital where I have been for 2 weeks now. Just be prepared. Lots of people go the whole time with few restrictions, but know it can change at any time. GOOD LUCK!

This is my third pregnancy and was put on modified bed rest at 24 weeks due to cramping, back pain and contractions. I actually started having contractions at 16 weeks.I am a teacher and was on my feet a lot. My other pregnancies were non eventful but this one is quite the opposite! I am scared to see what labor will be like!

I wasn't ever on bedrest but I put myself on major rest.. I took it VERY easy and vegged out.. Quit work at 20 weeks cuz I wanted to.. I enjoyed every single moment of spoiling myself and doing NOTHING!!

    Boy.. how things have changed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was on "modified bedrest" which meant essentially that I was sitting on the couch with my feet up. This started at 29 weeks, after I spent one night in the hospital with contractions. My doctor was able to stop the contractions (and my cervix stayed closed), but she said that was the sign that my body couldn't handle me being up & about anymore.

I was allowed to go from the bed to the couch in the morning and back at night, and I was allowed to go to the bathroom (as needed) or to the kitchen to get a glass of water or a sandwich. And I could get up to put a new DVD in the player. But that was it!

Honestly, I could barely do more than that by that point anyway, so it wasn't such a hardship.

Not all twin pregnancies end up on bedrest, but my sense is that the vast majority of women end up on some kind of activity restriction.

No bedrest, but my dr told me not to keep my job which required a lot of standing. I also did not work out during my twin pregnancy. First I was too sick and exhausted, and then I was too unwieldy. But no bedrest and I carried to term with no problems.

No bedrest for me yet, but I have definitely been pacing myself and taking it easy physically. I finished grad school at 16w and my PT job at 17w and then had a licensure exam to study for before I could start practicing as a counselor, so it's worked out well (and DH got a job with a higher salary right after that) so it worked out really well for me to not work outside the home since then.

I've been following most of the recommendations in Dr. Luke's book in terms of nutrition, rest, exercise, etc., and I think it's really helping.

No bed rest here. I did get taken out of work at 26 weeks due to my job required a lot of walking up and down stairs, etc. But I was never on bed rest, just relaxed. I drove myself to my appointments up until the last 2 weeks when it was impossible to drive due to being short and the size of my belly.

    Good luck.

I am 35 weeks and have not been on bedrest. At 34 weeks, my dr did want me to cut down the hours I worked. I am working 50% time right now. I am planning on working at least next week and maybe part of the first week of December. The dr was going to schedule a c-section for me on either the 8th or the 9th of December. (Unless the girls decide they want to make an appearance earlier!)

I had to go on bed rest at 15 weeks due to severe bleeding (subchorionic hemorage). I'm 20 weeks along and still on bed rest (although it has been modified, yay!). I'm hoping I'll be allowed to come off of it, but I'm afraid once they put you there, you're never getting off it until it's OK to deliver!

Funny thing. I was on bedrest from 29weeks-34 weeks (5 weeks total), during this time I had preterm labor 2x and took nifedipine regularly for contractions. Once I hit 34 weeks my doctor said if they come now its OK so she let me OFF bedrest. Ever appointment she told me she didnt think she would see me for another appointment......

3 weeks later at 37 weeks I convinced her to INDUCE! I showed up to the hospital dilated to 5, and 100% effaced and I was NOT in labor! Anything can happen!

I went on hospital bedrest at 24.5 weeks for shortened cervix. Went home at 28 weeks on strict bedrest and stayed on bedrest until 34 weeks and delivered two days after getting off bedrest.

I am 26 weeks and was placed on bed rest today. They are worried about baby A. But I've had no contractions and my cervix and everything is fine.

hi i am pregnant with twins i am at 30 weeks. 3 weeks ago i was put on bedrest because i was having contractions. Be very observative . . . the only reason we caught mine on time was i just happened to have an ultrasound, otherwise i would have never known. i was too active, doing laundry, too many stairs, carrying groceries.... if someone tells u to continue ur normal routine, dont listen unless ur normal routine is lazy.
