Do all kids climb out of the crib eventually?

I'm glad to hear that you can buy a tent for a PNP (because I couldn't figure out what we'd do if Amy ever started climbing out at naptime) -- but so far, neither of my 18-month-olds have shown the slightest interest in climbing out. They are both good walkers, and like to climb on the couch and up/down the stairs, but it just hasn't occurred to them to climb out of the crib. I'm just wondering whether I should buy some crib tents in advance, or if that might be a waste of $$ because some kids just never do it.

Our two 22 month olds show no interest in climbing out of their cribs!

Our girls never showed any interest in climbing out either. When we moved them ot of cribs at 2 1/2 yrs it was because they were cramped in the cribs. :)

Emma hadn't shown any interest until yesterday when she got up, came to the living room, and told me she didn't feel like a nap. I almost fell over. Then they both thought it was a game.

my niece is 3.5 she just moved into her big girl bed about 1 month ago. She never climbed out of her crib.

    I have a feeling I won't be so lucky!

    Good Lord!!! That's funny!!!

Mine are just shy of 2 and have never thought about it..which surprises me b/c we have those attached dressers with changing tables on the top. Everyone told me not to get them b/c the kids would climb up onto them and fall...nope, hasn't happened yet!

I think it depends how long you intend to keep them in the cribs. In our case Jade started attempting to climb out around 17 months, so we got tents for both of them. At this point, they are both still in their cribs and Melissa would definitely be attempting "escapes" if we didn't have the tents. I'm planning big girl beds for their third birthday  , but we've definitely gotten good use out of our crib tents.

That's a good point -- we hope to keep them there as long as possible (i.e., neither of us has a desire to move them when they turn 2 or something, and there's no younger child who's going to need a crib).

Amy's crib also has an attached dresser -- when she stands in her crib, it comes up to about her armpit level. It's a wonder she hasn't tried to shimmy up onto it yet (though it's smooth and probably hard to get a grip on). And her crib bars have a horizontal crosspiece at about her chest level. It's basically tailor-made for climbing out of. (It was a hand-me-down.)

I can laugh now but I wasn't yesterday. We are still trying to decide when to make the switch. I thnk it is going to be sooner than later. I cannot afford the tents when I have the toddler beds already.

no, not all kids do it.
Berkley never did it and was in a crib until almost 3 yrs old.
Brandon will be 3 in 2 weeks and still hasn't done it.
Beau did it around 13 months. . . we knew we had to act fast!

Nope, my oldest DD never climbed out of her crib. I don't even know if she ever attempted too and she was a climber. We did move her to a bed, well mattress on the floor around 26 months as she was just screaming in her crib and that move made it all better. :) I'm hoping that Emilie and Trevor will follow in their big sister's footsteps and not climb out either, although I'm thinking with 2 of them one of them is bound to do it.

my girls are climbers but never attempted it. Jessica used to climb "INTO" the crib though, but never thought of doing it the other way round thank goodness.

None of mine ever climbed out (or even tried as far as I know). Alyssa and Bryony were in cribs until they were 2 1/2, Naomi and Luke were in cribs until a month before their 3rd birthday. So you never know, you might be lucky and neither of them will climb out.

 :rotflmbo: At least she got out and down without hurting herself.

I am knocking very hard on wood at the moment, but mine have not tried to climb out either.

Now, the PNP that is a different story... Katelyn likes to help herself out once she is done with her nap at my parents house!

3 of mine never have tried. Only the boys have. Thankfully ds #2 is too chicken to go all the way. But if he does we'll be getting a tent.

My now 4 yr old DD was in her crib until 2.75 years and never got out. I think it depends on the child.

None of mine have ever climbed out. My son moved to a big bed at about 2.5 and the girls are still half n half at 3. We just got their big girl beds, but put them back in the baby beds half the time because they want to play too much in their new beds and won't go to sleep. It may also have to do with your crib and your baby's height. Our crib claims to have the "deepest" lowest level, so you can use it with taller children and they still won't be able to climb out. My kids, and especially the girls, are all on the shorter side, so their height combined with the deepness of the crib makes it pretty unlikely they would climb out. The girls are 32 in. now and I think they'd have a really hard time climbing out even if they wanted to because, when standing up, the crib rails are still at or above chest level. I don't think they could get a leg over the side.

Moshe actually climbed out the first time at about 15-16 months. I was floored. I wasn't going to get him a tent, as many kids feel very caged in, and I didn't think it was fair to do it to him. I simply was on top of him and firmly, very firmly pushed his leg back in every time he attempted to climb out. I told him over and over, making sure he's looking at me, that we do NOT do this and put his leg back in. I had to be very close to his room and the minute I heard the shuffling, I was back there, putting his leg back in. Thankfully, after 2-3 days/nights of this, he stopped. He only attempted it once more this week actually, and fell out. I think he's learned his lesson.
