Do 5 month olds get frustrated?

I have one baby who has always been ahead w/ her motor skills. Lately, she seems really fussy... as if she just wants to get up and go but her body won't let her! She is always straining forward in the stroller, like she wants to sit straight up but she can't sit unsupported yet and I can't push the seat any further up! And she is always trying to scoot forward on tummy time but she can't crawl yet. She can grab things but can't hold them for long, and when she drops things she swings her arms wide and cries. Almost like a "why can't I do this yet???" cry. I feel so sorry for her!

Is this normal? Or should I try to find another source for her fussiness? She was usually pretty content up till now. Thanks!

Yep, I think she is just ready for a change of scenery. How about some new toys? Exersaucer, jumper??

That was Alice, she was unhappy because she couldn't do what she wanted to do. Now she's unhappy because we won't let her do what she wants to do. :)

Do you have bumbo chairs? Maybe sitting her up in one of those will help? They have trays that you can attach to them now and you can put the toys on that.

I had to laugh reading your post...my DS is just like that! He is 6 months now and is a little less frustrated about things because he can do more now.
A few weeks ago he was always getting mad at things and screaming his little head off. I have to rotate things a lot for him. He spends 10-15 minutes
in tummy time where he is constant movement, then he gets mad because he can't do something and then we rotate him to the exersaucer. Then after 15 minutes he gets mad because he can't rip all the toys off it to put it in his mouth so again we put him in his Bumbo chair to play...same story there. I swear I'm going to lose so much weight just picking him up and rotating him all day long! But, like I said, he is much happier now that he can do some extra things that he couldn't three weeks ago. Even though he can still sit in the swing (because he is not yet 20 lbs.) we can't put him in it because he literally bends his body until he is dangling from the seat...he thinks he is a big boy now...we joke that pretty soon he'll be wanting to drive a car! :D

my motto is that frustration is a great motivator, and it's a gift to mankind. think about it, if you could lie on your back and have someone feed you and change you and all you had to do was nap, wouldn't you do it? :p it's frustration and aspiration that makes us get up, crawl and eventually walk.

embrace the frustration, i say!

Agreed! Jack is my "discontented" baby; he's not fussy, but just not content to sit and watch the world go by. He wants to move. The more frustrated he gets, the more he strives. He's now crawling on hands and knees, standing, and starting to cruise, whereas his brother (the content one) is still army crawling....

Lol Amber is just the same and Ruby is heading that way too. Amber loves being on her tummy but throws fists when she can't roll over bless her. She's also getting to grips with the fact that she can squeal in a lovely high pitch whenever things don't go her way lol
I hope she gets where she wants soon, my ears can't take it lol

Absolutely! Just before they're about to hit any milestone, they seem to get pretty cranky. Right before rolling over, crawling, walking, whatever. It's like they know they want to and should be able to but can't quite. Then one day they can and they're back to their happier selves. It's happened with all my kiddos.

mine have been frustrated almost daily since about 5 months, yeah.

they learned how to scream and they fully "play" me because they know i can't take the screaming and both of them want to be held constantly.

    so fun for me! yay!

sometimes i don't know how i ended up with two highly active monkeys

they are darn cute, but neither one can play independently for very long. they need me to entertain them and they don't like each other much yet. they make each other cry when they touch each other.
