DNA results are in..

For my twin sister's birthday (which is tomorrow- we'll be 35!) I got her a DNA test so she could find out the zygosity of her twin girls. They each had their own placenta and have the same blood type so drs told her there was a 20-30% chance that they were identical. So, for the past year she's been answering what seems to be the most commonly asked question- "what kind of twins are they" with an abbreviated description of what she's been told by doctors, knowing that at some point she'd get them tested. My twin and I only found out last July that we were identical with a DNA test from pro.active genetics. It was so nice to finally have an answer to the question everyone asks! So, I wanted the same for my sister. She got the test a couple weeks ago, did the cheek swabs and sent the kit back. The results came today- her girls are identical! She's so happy to finally have a definitive answer to that frequently asked question. Her and I spent the first 34 years of our lives unable to answer that question so I'm thrilled her girls won't have to do the same!!
My sister and I are also mirror image twins- I'm left handed, she's right handed, etc... so, in true mirror image fashion, I am just about convinced that I am having boys... I will find out next Tuesday (if they cooperate). I can't wait! Thanks for reading!

 

That's amazing -- identical twins both having identical twins! Makes you sort of wonder if they are wrong about there not being a genetic factor to it. Congratulations on your twins -- as you already know, it's a lot of fun.

 

That is a really cool thing to do for your sister!! And i have to agree with the PP -- makes you wonder - what would the statistical probilbity be that two identical twins would both go on to have ID twins as well. Does make you wonder!!

Wow both of you have twins thats amazing. Twins was such a foreign thing to me until I was told I was having them. I always stopped and admired how cute twins were etc., so now my friend is telling me I made it happen. I am so excited. Was it amazing to grow up with a twin sister? I am so happy for my girls.

 

Wow! That is so cool! And what a terrific birthday present! It definitely seems too much of a coincidence that you are identical and so are your babies... hmmm
