The results are in!! The girls are identical. I figured but am still a little bit sad that the IUGR affected Lily so much to cause them to look so different. At least they're both obviously unique individuals though and each so beautiful and special.

    Thanks everyone for your opinions!

Congrats on finding out. And don't rule out the IUGR twin not catching up. My IUGR twin is now less than a pound different than his brother. Both of your's are cuties though that is for sure.

So glad you know for sure! IUGR made my id boys look different too, but the one who suffered from it is bigger than his twin now.

I'm so glad you posted an update because I have been dealing with the same question about whether my boys are really identical or not. From the day we found out we were having twins our OB and the perinatologist said there was no question about them being identical. They even thought early on that they were mono/mono and later that they had TTTS. Thankfully the mono/mono was not the case and we only found out after they had to be delivered that they didn't have TTTS but my little Will was an IUGR baby. Now that they are almost 10 months old, I get mixed reactions from family, friends and complete strangers. Half say fraternal and half say identical. I never put much stock in thinking they are fraternal because of how we had so much evidence of identical twins before they were born. But they do not look 100% alike. They have the same nose, chin, mouth, they even have the same exact weird long eyelash on their left eyes. But their eyes are different, their foreheads are a bit different and their hairlines aren't exactly alike either.

My gut tells the the IUGR affected Will just enough to make them look just slightly different, but that they're still identical. One day I'll pony up the money for the DNA test, but until then it gives me reassurance knowing that others with IUGR twins have trouble figuring out the identical/fraternal question.

Oh, I should also add that at almost 10 months, my IUGR baby is still 3 lbs. smaller than his brother. But he's catching up. Until a couple of months ago, the gap was a little over 4 lbs. :)
