    Hi,
My name is Angel. I am expecting my 3rd and 4th children (b/b fraternal twins) this march. Twin A JUST RECENTLY displayed a fairly large growth discordance from twin B. They were 2-4 days apart the entire time, with B always in the lead. But now, A has the same size head and a small abdomen. Needless to say, I am concerned. I realize multiples aren't typical fetus/pregnancies/births anyways, but can anyone share what their experience has been with this kind of situation? I am going in for a level II u/s tomorrow, but maternal reassurance would help just as much, if not greater, than this appt with a high risk peri.
    TIA,
    Angel (and Jacoby and Gabriel)

Try not to worry :) When I was around that same time (24 wks) my babies had quite a span in their weights and my Dr told me that even though they were technically considered discordant, he wasn't too worried. They are just 2 separate babies and each ultrasound since then, they have actually gotten closer in their weights. Hopefully your U/S will give you some reassurance!

    hi there,
mine have never been the exact same size--since they were embryos! but, that is fine. in fact, their amnio sacs are not even equal right now, but my peri is monitoring and not worried. anyways, i just wanted to remind you that frat twins are no more similar than any other two siblings from the same parents--so it's quite common for their sizes to be a little unequal.
gl at your appt and try not to worry!
    take care, jl

Mine have never been the same size- and scared all my dr's before they were born perfectly healthy. But now they are almost 13 months old and HUGE! 24 and 27 lbs. Although they still weigh a lot different than each other.

    Don't worry about it!

I'm no MD, but I think with fraternal twins you don't have to be too concerned with growth differences. From what I've read, if you have identical twins, there is the possibility of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, but that's only if they are identical. If they are fraternal, they can have different sizes. On ultrasound, mine (who are fraternal) always had a one pound difference, and when they were born I found there was actually a two pound difference. All was well.
