    I'm curious if you remember your babies';

    approximate weight

    &

    approximate formula/milk intake per day

    when they started STTN.

Mostly people ask at what age does this happen. But I figure it might also have something to do with their size and how much they eat per day. Our first son was STTN at 8 weeks (8+ hours per night). But, he was ~12+lbs by then and taking ~30oz per day. Our twins are much smaller than he was, so I figure it would be interesting to see if STTN was more related to their age or these other factors.

    What do you think?

My two started sleeping through the night {6+ hours} at about 8 weeks. My dd was 10lb 5oz and my ds was 12lbs 6oz. I don't remember their exact intake at the time, but they were drinking 4-5oz bottles every three hours during the day, and maybe one at night. :)

    Interesting theory.

I didn't find that weight/food intake had anything to do with STTN. My babies were all big - DD1 was 7lbs13oz at birth, and 18lbs at 5 months, but woke for one feeding until 11 months. She is now an average-size 5-year old. DD2 was 5lbs12oz at birth, and STTN (8 hours) by 5 months (about 15lbs), DS was 7lbs at birth, and woke for one feeding until about a month ago. DD1 was EBF, DD2 was partial BM, and part reflux-formula, DS was EBF until 8 months.
I think that STTN is as much developmental as it is food-related. I think that at a certain point babies wake up and are easily able to get back to sleep without eating - the sleep is more important than the food at that point. That happens for different babies at different times. You can speed up the process with CIO, because the baby has to go back to sleep without food whether they want to or not. Or you can wait it out - they will get there on their own.

Great post- I hope a lot people respond because I'm dying for mine just to drop one feeding at night (espcially since I officially go back to work Monday)! It's interesting to see other responses and compare.

I've been curious about this correlation as well. At four months, my 11 lb 6 oz DD started sleeping through the night (12 hours) while her 10 lb 13 oz sister started to drop down to about 1-2 feedings per night during the course of 12 hours. At that time, I believe they were eating around 4-5 oz every 3-4 hours or so. My babies were on formula and EBM (mostly formula) at that point.

FWIW, my pedi doesn't think that STTN is really related to weight. I will be interested to hear what others have to say.

Depends on your definition of sttn. My twinnies went 8 hours (11-7) around 3.5 months, but it was closer to 5.5/6 months that they were consistently going 12 hours (7p-7a) without eating or waking. DS did start doing the 12 hours before DD and he is 3 pounds heavier, they both have been taking about 28 ounces of formula a day since about 5 months, and are now doing 3 solids meals a day as well.

Twin A 7lbs at birth 22 lbs now (still waking 1-2 times at night)
Twin B 5.11 lbs at birth 16 lbs now (still waking 1-2 times at night)
they are 8 months old and do go about 8 hours but its not regular by any means. I am so ready for a full nights sleep and i am almost willing to try anything (like CIO) But i also believe that they will drop night feedings all by themselves. They already have.. went from 4 bottles a night to 1-2.. I thnk its just a matter of time.

BTW my DD was 7 lbs at birth and STTN at 8-12 weeks. Im talking a full 12-14 hours.

Okay I am seriously doing something wrong.

My girls are STILL going every 2.5/3 hours. I think they are just waking out of habit! They are almost 11 and 10 pounds and drinking 3-4 ounces every 3 hours (welll 2.5 at night). 10, 1230,3:30,6:15 like clockwork.

    I am soooooo frustrated!

Oh, they are 2.5 months adjusted 3.5 regular.

I think I am going to call their ped. to see what she says.

approximate weight Katie was about 9 lbs when she began sleeping through.

    &

approximate formula/milk intake per day she was eating every 3 hours during the day.

when they started STTN. She was a month old when she started.

That's perfectly normal for babies who are 2.5 months old. Especially as they are taking small feeds at night. I know it feels awful right now, but it is what your babies need, and it *will* get better!

I had the same theory a few months ago, but now after all of the reading and research I've done, I've found that it really is developmental and has nothing to do with weight or food intake. So you're probably better off going by the adjusted age than their weight. Of course at 6 months, mine STILL don't STTN, so what do I know !
