I am 27wks pregnant with di/di twins. I posted last week about the babies having a small weight difference. They were 2lbs 2oz and 2lbs 7oz with a 19.1% difference. Everyone here made me feel much better and I am not really that worried. I checked in with my ob today to see if they want me scanned again before coming in next week and they do. My question today is, if there is still a difference can I expect that they will want to put me on bedrest? I thought I have read this happens a lot when there is a weight difference between babies. I am still feeling pretty good except for the occasional BHC or just feeling huge or my sciatica flairing up. I am trying to take it easy but still do things with the kids. I can cut a lot of that back. I will do what I need to do to keep these babies healthy but I feel horrible for my kids. They are 4, 3, and 20mos and go crazy when we stay in too much. I guess I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks so I am kinda prepared when I see the doctor next week.

My di-di girls always had a weight differnce, sometimes even by a pound and no one was ever concerned. Bed rest was never ever mentioned. The scans are only estimates and as the babies get bigger, it is even harder to get accurate measurements. When they were born, they were 7oz apart, the ultrasound I had the week prior had them at 1.5 pounds apart.

Thanks! I am not too worried. Everyone here is so wonderful and assured me last week all is fine since they are di/di. Hopefully the office will call today with my appt for the ultrasound. I am not going to complain about the extra scans because it will be fun to see the babies sooner!

My babies have a greater weight difference than yours, and although they are monitoring me a lot and being very cautious, they have also told me that at this point bed rest doesn't have any benefit to my babies or the length of my pregnancy. I have read, however, differing things about this. I think I would be more likely to be put on bed rest if I was also experiencing contractions or any kind of PTL, which I am not. I'm sure it differs from doctor to doctor, but I don't think size difference alone, especially this early in pregnancy, is a reason to put you on bed rest.

At 27 weeks, I had a larger size different in mono-di twins and I wasn't put on bedrest. In fact, my doctor said there's really very little research to show that bedrest helps for size difference. It's great for preventing pre-term labor, but for size differences in mono-di twins, getting more protein and taking it easy (rather than lying flat all day) is usually better. And for di-di twins, the weight difference can be just because the babies have different genetics! So definiately no need for bed rest.

My di/di girls have always been about 3-5oz apart and then this appointment when they should have been roughly 4 1/2 lbs, Baby A was right on target at 4.10lbs but Baby B was 5.07lbs!!! I was amazed how much she has grown and kind of expect the measurement to be somewhat wrong, but we will see in three weeks!! Good luck to you!

I'm having Mono/Di girls and they have a 26% discordance and I haven't been placed on bed rest. They are monitoring me weekly at the peri's office for now and will bump that up to a bit more frequently as we get closer but they have said that bedrest isn't really helpful with the twin's size
