Today I had my 31 week appointment with the peri. The ultrasound showed baby A (girl) weighs 3 lbs 4 oz and baby B (boy) weighs 4 lbs 5 oz.....so their is a pound difference between the two. Baby A has always been smaller then baby B....last month the weight difference was 10 oz.....and she has consistently measured smaller and he has measured bigger then their gestational age since my 17 week appointment.

Should I be worried about their weights? I have to go back in 2 weeks now so the doc can check on her weight and size again. I keep thinking maybe genetically she is just smaller (I was a 6 lb baby and my DH and DS were 8 lb babies).

Also do you think drinking boost or ensure would maybe help her catch up a little bit? (and which one tastes better?)

Any input would help alot....thanks :)

I don't think there is anything to be worried about. Fraternal twins grow at their own pace. Mine were always a little different.

Drinking boost/ensure is always a good thing, but I don't know that it will help catch the other one up.

It doesn't sound to me like you have anything to worry about, especially since they are frat adn the girl is the smaller one. Girls are on average just smaller than boys, and they are different babies. I wouldn't worry unless your doctor noted other problems like low fluid or distress.
It never hurts to beef up the calories, though! I drank a lot of chocolate Ensure, and still do on occasion since I'm bf and chasing two crawlers doesn't leave much time for a big healthy meal.

Sound like they are pretty good weights for their gestation - about what mine were when they were born!

At my last appointment (24 wks) my Girl was 1.9lbs and my boy was 2.1 lbs - 8oz difference. I was worried, but the Dr. said that they were both measuring above average, and it was more of a concern if the girl had been measuring SGA (small for gest age) and she wasn't. Your babies' weights look really good - umm awesome! We must just both have petite little ladies and big tough boys in there! I have to admit that I have (totally unscientifically) come up wiht a solution to make me feel better about it. . . . I just eat a lot of things that girls like to eat. . . brownies, Ben and Jerrys, etc (all for HER of course) thinking maybe she will like that stuff more than the celery and carrots . If it works, maybe I can get published in a medical journal

Like the others said, since they are fraternal they are just growing at their own rate. As long as she stays in about the same percentile of growth and doesn't start dropping dramatically, she's doing fine. :)

Thanks for the replies! It makes me feel better seeing that everyone kinda thinks like I do, that they are just growing at their own rate. I'll try and relax now!
