Difference between back pain and early labor/cramp pain?

16 weeks tomorrow.... and I have a question... my back has been beginning to KILL me, my GUESS is it is a combination between the growing belly, 20lbs I've put on, and huge chest (up to a 36 H....) It doesn't hurt when I am lying down. It hurts a lot when I am standing up, driving, or sitting in certain chairs.

But I've mentioned 'back pain' being a problem... possibly an indicator of contractions, m/c, or pre-term labor. how do I know/what is the difference between normal back pain and what might be pre-term labor?

I think that if it continued to hurt when you were lying down, I would be concerned. Also, if you felt it come and go, tighten and loosen, I would be concerned. Otherwise, it sounds like the normal back pain of carrying two babies! Rest as much as you can! :hug99:

Thanks, I've heard some ladies talk about back pain and PTL, and I appreciate knowing the difference :D

Your chest probably has a lot to do with that. Your back pain from that should also be a bit higher. I remember that with my son, my middle and upper back killed and I only went from a 34 A to a 36 B!
    Labor pains are lower.

Nows a good time to have your DH start practicing labor backrubs!

When I went into actual PTL where my water broke, it felt exactly like when my back goes into spasms from my herniated disk. I thought for sure my back was going out and they were going to have to put me back on hospital bedrest. But it was actually labor.

But when I had contractions that early (16 weeks) I wasn't feeling them or they were more like BH contractions.

I had back labor with my son and it was worse than the front labor that I experienced with my girls. My back did not hurt the entire time I was pregnant with my son, but the day I was induced it was horrible. It wasn't a piercing pain that I would get with each contraction, but instead it was a persistent pain that wouldn't go away. It was all in my lower back around my waistline and it hurt no matter what position I was in and nothing would take it away. Laying on my side would give me some relief, but not much. I got an epideral with my son, not because of my front labor, but because my lower back hurt so bad. My son was also born face up which probably explains the back pain.
