Did you get 2 potty chairs?

I have twin girls and was wondering if it is better to get 2 potty chairs (I will most likely train them at the same time)?

Also, it seems to me that our sink is really high in the bathroom. If a 2 step stool would not be high enough, what did you do to teach washing hands? I feel like this is a silly question, but I have heard it is not good to potty train them until they can do it all themselves and would me having to lift them to the sink be a problem?

Thank you so much for your suggestions...this is all new to me.

hi there! we just successfully accomplished potty training within the last few weeks! hooray! about the potties...i did buy 2...one for each bathroom, as opposed to one for each girl. however, when we first started i also bought a cushioned seat with an attached step ladder. i don't know if i can mention the website on hear, so if interested let me know. once the girls started getting the hang of the ladder seat, they wanted to start getting on the toilet themselves, without it. i also had 2 of them...one for each bathroom. so in each bathroom they had a choice of what to use...potty seat or ladder seat.

as for the sink...i don't know "how high" you are talking about, but i will tell you what i have been doing since my back surgery. whenever the girls have to use a public bathroom and the sinks are too high (and i can't lift them), i just have them reach as far as they can and i just wash my hands with theirs. does that make sense? if they can't reach the water or soap, i just kindof rub my hands with theirs and toss water on them to rinse. though they aren't completely doing it "themselves" they are learning the "mechanics" of it.

hope this helps and good luck

Thanks for the tips! They are very helpful. I would be interested in learning what kinds of seats you used. I will be looking to get some in the next month or so.

I am sorry to read about your car accident. I hope you are recovering from your back surgery well.

I bought 2 potty chairs exactly the same. I then bought just a ring. My son likes only the potty chair. My daughter grew out of everything fast, she prefers to sit on the toilet with nothing. She likes to make things more difficult for me!

2 potty chairs in their bathroom. gradually they took turns whether or not they wanted to sit on the "real potty" with the ring, or no ring.
then we went down to 1 potty chair in the bathroom. Then that one has migrated into the trunk of the car -- for emergencies.

This is what we did, too. I'm glad we did because when one sits, the other usually has to sit too.

I bought two. They fed off each other and each have their own seat. If one was going the other would suddenly need to go, so I got two!!

Have them wash their hands in a different sink perhaps? Since I was doing all the wiping etc., I didn't make them wash every time

We have 2 chairs, they used it more for throwing their toys in!!! :rotflmbo:

Jake is all done and preferred to have the ring on the toilet. Then, once he mastered that, we taught him how to stand (we have to hold his penis or there will be a mess!) :rotflmbo:

As far as washing hands, like Diane said, I do most of the wiping, so we don't...or I do like a PP said and wash my hands with theirs.

We also started with two chairs, and I think that was good, because they'd always want to go (or at least sit) at the same time. Then they started wanting to use the "big potty," and fortunately someone had given us a Baby Bjorn toilet ring (which is awesome BTW), so we just switched to that. I still keep one little potty in the bathroom, but now that the novelty of going potty has worn off (unfortunately without them actually being trained, but that's another issue), they rarely want to go at the same time.

We have a little stool (just one step) that they use to get onto the toilet, then I just move it over to the sink. They can't reach the taps yet, which is preferable IMO -- I dread the day that they can. I also don't make them wash a lot of the time, unless they actually got pee on their hands.

We started with one potty chair, but I bought a second one on the 2nd day as they were wanting to always go at the same time. We actually had a few accidents because one was waiting for the other to finish! Oops... So I would say do 2 chairs unless one or both of your twins seems interested in using the regular toilet. (Ours want NOTHING to do with it!)

I'd say wash their hands when they go. It's just a good habit to get into, even if you have to lift them right now. Good luck!
