Did you eat us mommy?

Last night at dinner the girls were talking about their favorite topic du jour- when we were in mommy's belly/when we were born. So then Meara looks at me and says "How did we get in your belly? DID YOU EAT US?!" And then Ana, laughing said "Oh no mommy! Why did you eat us?!"

So I had to think on the fly (all the while thinking about Alden's post from a week ago about the same subject) and I managed to say something about eggs in mommy and then they grow and because little babies that need to grow inside mommy until they are big enough to come out and be born.

They both looked unconvinced, but were more excited to talk about the day they were born and re-enacting it. Meara: "The doctor pulled me out first and my feet were in my face!" Ana: "Then the doctor pulled me out and I cried "WAAAAA" because I was cold!"

So um, yeah, woah. I think I need to work on my response for the next time they ask me.

I definately need to figure out what I am going to say when the time comes. They would catch me completely off guard right now. I would probably mumble something about eggs, too. That's tough one to explain at this age!

i once mentioned that their belly buttons were where they got nutrition from me when they were in my belly. after that, for about a week, every time they ate they tried to put food in their belly buttons, lol!

i think your response was right on! at least it was better than mentioning a stork or something.
