HI, I WAS WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU LADIES HAVING TWINS WITH IUGR, AND HAD BEEN PUT ON BEDREST FOR IT, IF IT HELPED YOUR TWINS GAIN THE WEIGHT THEY NEEDED? WERE YOU ABLE TO CARRY THEM TO TERM OR DID YOU END UP HAVING THEM DELIVERED EARLY. I HAVE BEEN ON BEDREST SINCE WEEK 31 AND WAITING TILL WEEK 34 FOR THEIR GROWTH SCAN, THEY SAID IF THEY ARE STILL GROWTH RESTRICTED THEY WILL DELIVER BY 35 WEEKS. I GUESS IM WONDERING WHAT THE ODDS ARE OF MABY HAVING THESE BABIES IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO? OR IF THERES A CHANCE I WILL JUST STAY ON BEDREST TILL WEEK 38?

I'm not sure yet, because I'm still on bedrest - but I'm been on bedrest for TTTS, where one of my twins was measuring at least a week behind the other, and I have a two vessel cord on that twin, which also may have something to do with small size. We did have IUGR, but since 18 weeks when I was put on bedrest, that twin has grown consistently every week and not "slowed down" in growth. In fact, last week, at 30 weeks, both twins are the SAME size.

I'm also doing 3 Boost high protein drinks a day.

So, I don't know if it's the bedrest, or the protein, or some other factor, but I've been stable since about 20 weeks, and both twins are growing well.

It's worth a shot - horizontal rest is the important part - not just sitting - because you want to improve blood flow to the uterus. Also, boost your protein and water. It may help, it may not - but I'm there with you.

    My thoughts are with you!

I went on modified bedrest at 30 weeks for IUGR and had to deliver at 34 wks because their was little to no growth. For me it didn't help them gain weight, but they didn't lose weight, and I did get to carry them until 34 weeks.
Hang in you're doing a great job!

    THANKS!

APRIL. DID YOU HAVE TO LEAVE THEM BEHIND AT THE HOSPITAL?

JENNY, I HAVE INCREASED MY PROTEIN, AND ALL I DO IS DRINK WATER. BUT I THINK I WAS STILL MOVING AROUND THE HOUSE TOO MUCH, I EVEN WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE ONE DAY, NOW I FEEL REALLY GUILTY ABOUT IT. MY DOCTOR DIDN'T REALLY GIVE ME GUIDELINE. I FINALLY LOOKED UP "MODIFIED BEDREST" ON LINE, THAT SHAPED ME UP. NOW I STAY IN BED 90% OF THE TIME AND STAY ON MY LEFT AS MUCH AS I CAN. I HOPE THIS HELPS AND I CAN MAKE UP FOR LAST WEEK.????? THANKS FOR THE REPLIES.

They stayed for 17 days and we got to bring them both home at the same time. The biggest reason they delivered is because they thought Carli was losing weight instead of gaining. They did great once they were out and gained weight quickly.

First of all, don't feel guilty! BR is HARD, and you're doing a great job!

Like PP, I don't know if the BR had much to do with it, but my OB prescribed it and I stuck to it (most of the time, anyway). I also drank Ensure 3-4 times a day and drank as much water as possible.

We made it to 35 wks exactly before I developed pre-e, and Baby B (Annika) fell off the growth chart entirely at the last growth scan. It was clear that "it was time" and we did the semi-emergency C/S that day.

Both girls spent 3 wks in NICU to gain weight and learn how to eat. They had no respiratory or cardiac issues, for which we were so grateful (yay for steroid shots!).

There are more details in my journal (link below). 35 wks is a great milestone to shoot for! You can do it.

PM me anytime and :hug99: to you!

YES! bedrest did help us! bedrest was very hard I felt like the weeks would never pass!!! I looked forward to my dr. appointments like a kid looking forward to a disney vacation!! My baby A was my small baby and she had low fluid also. I went on bedrest at 30 weeks - no one expected us to make it until my scheduled c-section day at 38weeks 4 days - but we did!! and my baby A weighed 6 pounds 9oz and B was 6 pounds 8 oz!!
I layed in bed or on the couch and drank more water than I ever thought I could! my hushand joked that he shouldrun the hosethrough the window and just hook me up!!!!!!! but it did work!!!
I wish you the best of luck!!! once your babies arrive you will look back on this time and wonder where the time went (hard to believe I know!!)
