Did anyone get rid of cribs early?

We just got back from a vacation in Mexico (our first vacation since my pregnancy!). It went so well! One thing that I was worried about and ended up working great was we didn't have cribs for them in their room. We just had a queen size mattress on the floor. They napped and slept through the night perfectly on it. So well that I'm tempted to get rid of their cribs at home and just go to mattresses on the floor. I wonder if anyone else did this and how it went. My girls aren't walking yet although that seems to be coming soon based on how they can climb... but I thought having them on the floor would be safer/easier for now.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Our girls were in cribs until their second birthday and then we moved them into toddler beds. Personally I would keep them in their cribs. They are only 14 months old I would want them contained. JMO

You could try it with the cribs in the room. I imagine there is a school of thought that might actually say that's a great idea. Do it before they walk and maybe they'll stay on their bed and in their room, because they don't remember otherwise. I am NOT the right person to ask as I am struggling with bedtime and staying asleep all night now as it is!!

We moved at 19 months without a hitch. Just be sure to bolt all furniture to the walls.

We moved at about 18 mo when Ethan fell out of the crib for the 1st (and last) time! It was fine, and a lot of fun. We only had their two beds (cribs converted to todd beds) and their dresser (bolted, like PP said).

All 4 of my kiddos were out of cribs by 18 months. If they've already done it successfully on vacation, I would not put them back in the cribs at all! (but that's just me...easy translation from vacation would make my life easier...) In the beds, we didn't have them on the floor, though...we did the regular beds on a foundation and frame, with side rails. My girls treated it just like their crib and never climbed out. The boys do, but they also climb right back in when they're sleepy. (we gate their door, so they can't escape...but they're working to figure that one out! ;) )
    Just my 2 cents!

i waited until mine were two , then put them in regular full size beds.

with my older son, at 18 months he was done and i put him on a mattress on the floor.

once they realize they have the freedom to come and go it becomes harder..

do what you like , just be prepaired to deal with the conciquences.. sp..

Mine are 21 months and still in their cribs. I'd like to make it until at least 2 1/2, preferably 3.

My boys went from cribs to mattress on the floor at around 9 months old. It was a big pain to put them to sleep for a while because they could not fall asleep without me next to them. This continued until they were 2 years and 4 months old. Then I finally sleep trained them to go to sleep on their own and it's been great since then. With my next baby, I would keep her in the crib longer.

My oldest was out by 15 months and straight into a twin bed (matresses on the floor with side rail). He went into a full twin bed at 18 months. My oldest DD was 20 months and right to twin bed. Zach was 16 months and Hannah was 17 months (or maybe 17 and 18 months). Honestly, we did not have any issues with them getting out of bed or losing naps. That happened a bit once they hit almost 3, but really not an issue until they were really getting ready to loose a nap.

Good luck. I highly recommend the early removal of cribs as it went so well for us. If they did well on vacation, I would just go for it.
