I've finally been motivated to start thinking about getting these abs back in some kind of shape (sis is engaged!), and I just discovered that I do in fact have a big old hole in my abdominal muscles.

Is it too late, 9 months out, to do anything about this? Am I permanently messed up? If there's hope, are there any good exercise videos or exercises that you really liked to narrow this gap?

Can't believe I waited this long, except that it was so fun to watch the extra weight melt off without any effort besides nursing :D

There IS hope! Things are still tightening up for me 20 months post partum. Things have improved gradually over time on their own, but some things that have helped are running, which generally tightens and stregthens things all over, and kickboxing, which works on abs. I have no tapes to recommend but I am training for a 5k and going to the gym. HTH!

My peri recommended pilates floor exercises to strengthen your core without totally focusing on the abs (if that makes any sense). Apparently sit-ups aren't helpful because its about the muscles coming back together. I still have a hernia from my bra line all the way to below my belly button, but its smaller than a year ago. GL!

I just bought the Losing your Mummy Tummy book- Tupler's the author. She's very in depth about how to fix a diastasis with exercise, and says even if you're 40 years PP, you can still heal those muscles. Now, I'm afraid I haven't been so great at keeping up w/ the exercises myself... but it's a good resource.

You've got to be kidding me...I JUST picked up my Lose Your Mummy Tummy last night as I was in the CIO trenches! I am standing in one of my best friends' wedding in October and our dresses just came in  so it's time for me to get serious about this belly. I've been melting away from nursing as well, but the more I lose, the more pregnant I look! I'm going to start following the book this week so I'll let you know how it's going. My diastasis is REALLY bad...I can fit my entire hand in there :(

Lesley- I was clueless about it till someone on here brought it up awhile back! ;) Basically, when you get pg, your muscles separate to make room for your uterus, and obviously, us twin moms are going to have it worse. Lay on your back and pull your head up slightly, like you're about to do a sit up- put your hands above and below your belly button and see how big of a gap there is. For me, my gap is about four fingers wide. As far as fixing it.... it's a PIT bum!
