My DD has been Augementin for an ear infection and has had diarrhea from the antibiotics. Her bottom is red and raw and screams in pain when we change her diaper. Do you have any suggestions on how to help ease the pain and maybe prevent it from getting worse. She is done with her antibiotics as of this morning, so hopefully the diarrhea will stop, but I feel so bad that she is in pain. Thanks for the tips!

Ah man, that Augmentum stinks! the same thing happened to DS and DD when they were both battling double ear infections!

What worked for us was called Triple Paste. It was SO expensive ($30 for a big tub) but it really worked wonders. We used washclothes and stopped using wipes. Even for poop. It was kinda gross, but we just used warm water and a washcloth. Then we made sure the butt was COMPLETELY dry. I would sit there and blow on the area for a while (it always made them laugh when I did this.) Then I would LATHER on the Triple Paste. And I mean really lather it on there ... so it was all white on the butt.

That was it ... it really got better pretty quickly...

    Hope she feels better soon!'

Just wanted to chime in and say that antibiotics can cause yeast infections on their bottoms. It appears to be a rash that just gets worse and diaper rash cream doesnt help. It continues to get worse till it almost looks like a burn and it is very painful. I just wanted to let u know cause that is how i found out. We used nystatin and Dr. Smiths rash cream to clear ours up.

Ditto on the Triple Paste. It seems to help so well with the diarrhea rash. It is very expensive compared to other diaper creams but it will be cheaper than the inevitable doctor's visit as the rash gets worse. You should find Triple Paste in jars and tubes at Wal-mart and Target.

Also, add more yogurt to her diet or even the acidophillous (sp?) powder to things she eats. (Applesauce etc.) I used baby powder to dry them when their bottoms were red and sore! :hug99: I hope she feels better soon!!

DS battled bloody rashes because of his disease for several years. mineral oil and viva paper towels for wiping (cotton balls work ok too soaked in the oil). For cream, critic aid works good and ilex paste.

Yes, give yogurt while on antibiotics and I also highly recommend Triple Paste! :good:

My pedi also suggested a PRObiotic. It helps restore the good bacteria in the digestive tract. You can't give it within 2 hours of the ANTIbiotic though. She recommended Culturelle. Just open up the capsule and add it to a drink. It has more potency than yogurt, but the same type of stuff. It really helped Lucas. It will also help fight the infection.
