So, one thing I know we're really going to need is diapers and I plan on asking everyone to give them as baby gifts (we've been really fortuante that our families have bought most everything else that we'll need). I know it's risky to load up because they might be allergic or have different preferences, but as far as premies, what are the best size and brand? I see so many on TV where it looks like the diaper comes down to their feet and is about to fall off. I keep thinking there has to be something smaller out there!

For newborn size diapers I liked pampers swaddlers. They're pretty tiny; preemies might not ever fit your babies, so I wouldn't stock up. Other newborn size diapers I tried seemed too stiff to me.

    TwinsinFL,

Can I ask where you are going to register? DH and I are going to do this too but after looking at Amazon (where I already have a registry for our family members) I saw most of their diapers are in 'super economy' packs and I would like to offer the choice of spending less. Thanks!

We'll be registering mostly locally as our family is all near. Target, BRU and Storkland are on the list once we find out the gender of the babies (in 2 weeks!).

We never used preemies. My girls were 5 weeks early but fit into newborn. We used huggies. That's also what the hospital sent us home with. We weren't in them for long. Huggies size 1 is birth to 14 pounds. We were in those almost immediately and just grew out of them this week. So if you go with that size you can't have enough.

I remember my oldest being allergic to all the diapers out there and we eventually just switched to cloth. The rest of the babies have been in cloth too so I can't weigh in on which is best for newborns. However, could you suggest gift cards solely for diapers rather than registering for them? That way you're not completely stocked to the gills and trying to exchange ill fitting diapers, wrong sizes, or worse, ones that cauase reactions. Just a thought.

Maybe ask for gift cards in leiu of diapers and then you can figure out what size, brands work best for your babies. Target takes back nothing without a gift receipt and even if it is on your registry if people don't tell the cashier then too bad..I have registered there the past 2 times and regretted it both. With my last pregnancy we got a ton a HUggies and my daughter couldn't wear them. Target would only let me return 3 packs without a reciept using my drivers license and I am allowed no more returns for the next year without a receipt. In my experience people do not usually give gift receipts with diapers. Diapers.com is also a good place to buy diapers once you figure out what your are going to use and they accept manufacturers coupons as well. If you order a case (spend $49.00) shipping is free :)

At our shower they held a "Diaper Raffle" that is where the hostess put

"If you would like to be entered in the Raffle, Bring a bag of diapers" on the invitation. (then they drew a name and they got a gift...we had a coed shower...so the girls got a beauty basket...they guy winner got a Lowe's gift card.)

Our boys will be 8 months old on Tuesday, and we still HAVE NOT bought ANY diapers!....

every baby is different so they might even have to use different brands/sizes....so welcome ANY and all of them, we started out in Pampers Swaddler Newborn size and my guys were just under 5 lbs.

I was able to exchange diapers at Walmart and at Walgreens WITHOUT any hassle, Target and Babies R Us were IMPOSSIBLE!

    Good luck!

Keep the receipts, especially for Target...I had a hassle returning Target Brand diapers once.

Love the Swaddlers until they were in a size 3, then we moved to Cruisers.

Not every baby will fit preemie, even if they are a few weeks early, and some are in newborn for only a short while. It all depends. Newborns were a bit big for my boys for the first 2 weeks so we were in preemies (they were 5.14 each but very slender), then in newborn for about 4 weeks before we moved to a size 1.

My suggestion is to have maybe a package or two of newborn but to have a few size 1s and 2s available. You'll be in those sizes longer, and in our house we were in size 3 forever!

I found the same issue, Im a pampers Mom all the way. The other new born diapers just seem toooo stiff. Though my little guy didnt have a issue with a certin brand, it was personal preference to use only pampers.

Even my tiny 3.11 lb baby fit in newborn diapers so I wouldn't bother with preemie diapers at all and I would start with newborns. For disposables, we liked the Pampers Swaddlers best. The Babies R Us brand Supreme was nice as well. Get about a month's worth of newborn diapers (600 -720 diapers) and then get size 1s.

FWIW, my last favorite diapers were the Pampers Baby-Dry.

Like a pp, I love pocket cloth diapers compared to disposables though.

DO NOT GET HUGGIES FOR PREEMIES!!!!! At least for us they were HORRIBLE! Pampers Preemies worked wonders for us, but now, when we dont do cloth, we use huggies. Pampers runs a bit small in their sizes for our boys.

If you don't open them walmart will take them back.

We got Pampers Swaddlers and they worked really well. I got a bunch of premie ones and then moved up to newborn. Mine were only in the premie size for about a month for my DD and about 2-3 for my DS. Do not load up on one particular size, they may not fit and they will grow out of them so quickly.
We tried a bunch of different brands and none of them worked as well as the Swaddlers.

I had a pack of preemie ones for my girls, took them back and got newborn ones.

I would say some newborn and the rest in 1, 2, and 3s even. I liked Pampers Swaddlers in the newborn, size 1 I used the Swaddlers and Pampers Baby-Dry. Once into size 2 we did Swaddlers and Huggies and I actually got Luvs in 2s and LOVED them. (I used size 3 for DS already) and now that they are all in size 3's we use Luvs exclusively and love them.

We were having the same concern, we live in a pretty rural area and have to drive sometimes 30+miles to the nearest "walmart" and they often have empty shelves, so we asked for gift cards...or I found diapers.com. I've tested them out and love them...you recieve diapers within 2 business days, and if you order over $49 shipping is free! And with twins, order over $49 should be a breeze!!

Good luck to you...and how awesome that your family has pitched in so much!!
