My mom and grandmother are wanting to send us diapers when the boys are born for when they come home. What size should I tell them to buy? How long were your twins in Premie's - we are expecting out boys from 34-36 weeks and don't know if they will still be in premie diapers or on to newborns?

My twins aren't here yet, but my son, who's now 3, was a month early and weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz at birth. He wore preemie clothes and diapers for 3-4 weeks then moved into newborns. This time around, whenever people ask me what size diapers they can get me, I tell them to get me size 1's and 2's. The preemie stage just doesn't last long, and you never know - you could birth two 7 pounders and not need any! So I figure, I'll buy a few preemie packs to have on hand, just in case, then if we need more we'll get more. But you KNOW you'll need sizes 1's, 2's and 3's (at some point) so I'm sticking with those as my top choices for gifts. I can get preemie diapers if and when we need them.

    HTH. :)

I would suggest stocking up on size 1's. My boys were in that size for a LONG time. We got about 5-6 cases of size 1's and that was enough. I wouldnt get too many newborn's because they may not wear them for long.

we went through a lot of newborns in the first couple months. they only used preemies for a couple weeks and my girls were 4 11 and 5 8 when they were born. they have been in 3s since 4 mos, and i think i am going to use those the longest

We went through alot of newborn and size 1's. Also, you want to make sure those diapers work for you. I hated huggies and loved pampers and now we are in target brand. But it is different for everyone.

We started with Preemie size - but not for too long, maybe 2-3 weeks? Then onto Newborn size & now they are both in size 1 at 10 weeks old.
I would have one package (60 or so) of Preemie, Newborn & size 1 just to be safe & then have someone go get more in the size you need :)

mine came home in newborns- they were born right before 36 weeks and they were 5.5 pounders. We pretty much stayed in the newborns and size ones for a long time, then shot thru sizes 2 and 3, and have been in fours for a good while now. I honestly wouldn't buy many preemie diapers at all. MAYBE a small package- but if your kids come home in them, for one, the hospital will send some, and two, you'll be in newborns pretty quickly, I'd bet.

Also- don't overstock one brand- as much as I loved swaddlers, we discovered that the fragrance broke one of our babies out in a rash- so we have to use huggies.

I have size preemie clothes and diapers cause even if my babies are as big as 5-6 lbs that's still in the preemie range. I also have some size newborn stuff....just in the rare chance they are bigger than expected.

I think you go through the first 3 sizes (newborn, 1 and 2) really fast, or at least I did. But I have big kids. They were in newborns for a few packages, then 1 for a little longer, than 2, but very soon to 3. But again, mine are pretty big. Somebody once adviced me to ask for gift certificates (e.g. Target) instead of diapers ... that way, you can buy the right size at the right moment instead of stocking up the wrong sizes.

They have been in size 4 for a long time now. My oldest was also in 4 and 5 for the longest period.

Remember too that most places will let you exchange one size for another so if you get too many of one size, you can just exchange an UNOPENED box for the next size. I remember having so many newborn diapers that I ended up exchanging my last box for a size of 3's like a year and a half later!

I would suggest 1s also, but just to be safe you should get one box of preemie swaddlers too.

Our girls were in preemie diapers for about six weeks and are still wearing newborn size. They'll be three months on Saturday but were only 4 pounds when born at 33.5 weeks.

That's a tough question... whatever they buy for you- get receipts! I got loads of diapers at my baby shower but now I have so many unused newborn and size one diapers that I can't return because people don't generally give you diapers with a gift receipt. My boys are in a size 3 already! They could probably still be in a size 2 but they leak more in that size. They were in size one the longest (so far)... Good luck!

I definitely would agree that you'll need to stock up on size 1 since they'll be using that size for a good 3 months or so. You'll be changing about 500 diapers a month for the first 2 to 3 months. :D

We had newborn diapers. They were in them for two months. Preemie is just up to five pounds. Unless you're expecting smaller babies, I would go with NB. You can put even a four and half pound baby in newborn size.

I would say to start with a couple packages of newborns, then a bunch of size ones. Ours were in size 1 for awhile.

I would agree with the pp size 1s was where we were the longest then just like that we went to size 3 we skipped 2 all together. Size 3 diapers seem to be where we will be for quite some time.

my little boy was in preemie diapers until he was 2 months old but was also born at 27wks, we switched to newborn diapers when he would have been about 37wks gestation. Also little boys i have realized need a little more roon because of thier little pee than little girls so girls can stay in preemie diapers longer so since u are having boys i would by newborn or 1st, i thought i had many newborn and he is going thru about 10-12 a day so times that by 2 for u

I haven't had the twins yet but with DS he was in size one diapers until about 7 or 8 months and then in size 2 until 15 months. (He's always been in the ALMOST 10% for height and weight) He is now 27 months and in size 4. So far we stocked up on size one diapers. I have a 2 packages of premies and 1 or 2 packages of newborns. We will probably buy more newborn ones soon.

    I second that idea!

Obviously it depends on how early your kids are born as to what size they would need. Me personally I would ask/stock up on 1 pack of premies, and a few of newborn and the rest of size one.

We had some NB and lots of 1's on hand. When DD ended up in Preemie diapers I told the nurse I didnt have preemie sizes at home and I had no one to go get me any. She sent me home with enough Preemie for DD for 4 weeks and even enough NB for DS for 2 weeks until he went into a size 1. We had even more NB that that and DD used those as well as the case we had purchases.

She has been in size 3 since she was 4 months old. DS is now in size 4's but wore 3 for about 4 months as well.

I would say ask 1 of them for size 1 and the other for size 2. If anyone else asks, ask for size 3.

This way you already have some on hand when you realize they need the next size and it will buy you some time until you get out and stock up.

We had a few preemie packs and a case or two of size ones. I would stock up on size ones because you know you will use those. If money at that time will be an issue have them get you a gift card so you can run out and buy more preemies if you need them. One of ours was in preemies for several weeks and they are both still in size ones at 12 and 13 lbs. We did have to buy more preemie diapers but there's just no way to know ahead of time.
