Diapers leak poop around their thighs...

I'm wondering if it's normal or I need a new brand of diapers or something... When they poop they often have poop leaks around their thighs. It's always happened more or less but it's been worse lately. No problem with pee...

DD is around 20 pounds now and in size 4 (been for months), DS is around 22 pounds and in size 5 (for 3 months or so). I usually change diaper sizes when it doesn't fit around their waist anymore, as I use BJs diapers and the straps are not stretchy... I don't like it and I might have to use bigger diapers for that reason, but they're almost half the price of Pampers so I'm still reluctant to switch... although if you tell me that you never have those issues with other brands, I might. I was going to switch to Target diapers as BJ's is 30 minutes away now and the Target ones are almost as cheap AND have stretchy tabs now, but does anyone have any experience with them? I used a pack a couple weeks ago but didn't use them long enough to compare (and honestly I forgot).

Fran. my advice here might not be helpful. But here goes. Personally, I like the target brand diapers, I felt they worked well for us and we had minimal poo and pee leakage. If you ask my DH, he hates the Target brand. I have not tried the BJ's brand to give you an honest comparison. I have been using the Babies R Us brand lately and they have been working great for us too. Just another option for you in case you want to try something else instead of Target. Both of mine are in size 4 and I think they are getting ready to use size 5. Good luck!

I absolutely loved the Babies'r Us brand actually (I got 4 boxes at Black Friday when they were $10)... it might be a cheaper alternative than Pampers for sure. Thanks for bringing that up!

We had that problem for awhile and what I finally figured out was that when I changed their diaper, it was getting bunched up around their thighs/butt. I now make sure when I change their diaper to pull it around their legs so they don't have a diaper wedgee.

BTW, I use Walmart brand and don't have any issues with them.

Yeah that might be the problem... maybe I don't open them enough or something... I'll try to be more careful.

I really like the target brand diapers. They changed their diapers a couple months back and I was pi$$ed since they are now less in a box for more money, plus they changed the diaper, but I got over it. I have found them to be the best diaper for the least amount of money.

My girls are 23-24lbs and wear size 4, they wear Pampers Baby Dry to bed at night in size 5.

I dont like the BJs brand because they are cut like huggies and I had leak issues with that 'cut'.

    Hope that helps.

Yeah I'll probably move to Target... I think I actually like their new diapers better.

    Thanks!

We tried just about every diaper out there because I just didn't want to spend the money on Pampers but ended up having leaks. I have NEVER had a pampers diaper leak at all. (Unless of course a well-meaning grandparent put it on wrong). So, after lots of experimentation we just decided we like Pampers and budget for them.

Just my experience and opinions here, so what works for my babes' physiques may not work for others.

I tried all kinds of brands in hopes to save money, but in the end, I'm a Pampers faithful. (Altho, I think Huggies wipes are better.) Why? My kids had so many clothes-destroying leaks and blow-outs, I was paying extra for laundry aids to remove stains and having to replace stained clothing. . . plus, I found that I had to change their diapers twice-as-frequently which also made costs equal out. And then there were the carseat blow-outs or stroller blow-outs or crib blow-outs that also increased my laundry time and efforts. My babies were/are breastfed, so it wasn't just an issue of "blow-out amounts or types" (b-milk poo tends to be milder and less copious - sorry for the description). It was the fact that Pampers, in our experience, were just so much more superior that they were worth the money I paid for them.

That said, I do use coupons and buy them in bulk whenever a special is running.

I remember keeping church nursery, and there was a beautiful little baby girl who came in every Sunday wearing a very cheap (cost and make) generic store brand. It never failed that she leaked all over her beautiful dresses - even when we changed her hourly. Her mother often got mad at us for having to change her out of her dress, but the mom couldn't seem to understand that the cheap diapers were the culprit - not us being derelict. What were we to do?!

I also think that some babies are just built to fit in different diaper designs better than others.
