I love pampers diapers but it is getting expensive with three kids... Has anyone found cheaper diapers that you like? I tried one generic brand but they were not soft at all. Also, one of my girls has a bad diaper rash. What diaper creams do you recommend? Nothing seems to work right now.

We use pampers too, so no help there. Although we did use one box of the Costco (kirkland) brand we got as a gift, and they seemed to work pretty well. They were not as soft as the Pampers, and a little lower cut in the back, but certainly useable.

We use the A&D diaper cream and Aquaphor. I put the Aquaphor on pretty much every change, unless they're starting to get really red, then I alternate A&D with the Aquaphor. I really slather the stuf on, and don't really rub it in, and it seems to help. One of the boys has SUPER sensitive skin, so it's a constant battle.

Im based in Spain so Im not sure what brands you´ve got over there. I use the supermarket´s own brand and find them to be great & cheaper! Both my LOs go 12-13 hours overnight without any complaints or leakages! As for nappy creams, I use Sudocrem. It´s made in the UK so Im not sure if you can get it in the States (DH buys it for me when he goes to Madrid as there´s a British chain there that sells it plus family bring me over pots of it!). If you Google it, you will find their webpage and can see the ingredients they have & maybe find something similar though Im sure other mums here will guide you. It´s basically an antiseptic cream and it is brilliant. If/When my LOs´ bums get red, this cream clears it up in a day!

I'm going with Huggies for now, not any cheaper than Pampers unfortunately. I do use Luvs also and have had several leaks this past week with them. However, I still haven't purchased diapers and am still using those given to us. So you use what you were given type thing. When I have to start buying my own, I will get Huggies because those have been my favorites. I hear the Kirkland brand is great (Costco). As far as butt creams, I use Dr. Smith's and it works wonders! We don't have many rashes though.

Not much help on the diaper front, I use whoever I happen to have the best coupons for. LOL

As for diaper cream, I don't use that at all. I tried them all on my older kids and found that the very best thing I ever could've used was Corn Starch Powder! DD1 had the worst case of DR I had ever seen! (It was bleeding etc) I took her in to the pedi and the little old guy told me that before they had diaper creams and jellies they used plain old cornstarch (like for cooking). Made sense. I switched over to the powder and haven't looked back since and have not had a single diaper rash since either (3 kids later... LOL).
Just be sure to read the powder container, you want the "Corn Starch" one, not the regular talc one. You will know because they look almost the same but one costs a little more. (Not drastically but probably a buck or two but well worth it! Check WalMart.)
It doesn't take a bunch, just a very small squirt on the diaper area when you change them and you will be golden!

We are a Pampers family, so no help there, but I do use A and D diaper cream and triple paste and both work very well.

We do cloth for the most part... but I do like Luvs and they are usually pretty cheap... though am not sure if they come in the large quantities like Pampers... good luck.

I'm not sure how old your children are, but we went through phases. We used Huggies and Pampers as infants then went to Pampers Baby Dry (the cheapest Pampers makes) and then moved to Luvs around 9 months. I tried Target's brand and they got their first diaper rashes. That ended quickly. I had tried Luvs at 4 months, but they leaked. So definitely give the cheaper brands a second chance as your kids get older.

I'm a huge Aveeno fan and love their diaper cream.

We use Pampers too so I can't help you there.

We use Desitin Original and love it. It's a nice thick barrier on their bottoms. We've yet to have any diaper rashes/irritation.

I used the pampers swaddlers when they were tiny and they worked fine. The cruisers don't seem to work very well for us at all, lots of leaks at night. So we switched to Huggies. The Huggies natural fit are okay, but the pictures on the front seem to leave dye on the insides of clothes and pajamas if the diaper gets really wet (like overnight). I have used the pampers baby dry, they seem better for during the day, I don't really like them for overnight.
Mostly we end up using the Huggies snug and fit. They don't leak for us overnight and I always seem to have coupons for them so I have yet to pay full price for any of them. I've gotten lucky at Target with them taking double coupons even if the coupon says not too, making most of my diaper purchases as cheap or pretty close to as cheap as the store brands.

I'm trying several kinds of diapers right now in search of an alternative that satisfies our budget but also my concerns about disposables (I'd really rather go cloth, but no longer an option since my dryer died and my washer is on its last legs). Anyway, this thread will help me with that.

As for the diaper cream for rashes, I'm very cautious about that because most creams contain parabens which are hormone disrupters (they convert to phytoestrogens which can cause reproductive disorders). I use the zinc balm from Avalon Organics. It contains twice the zinc that Desitin has but it has better ingredients. We only use the cream at night. We also use a hair dryer on their bits after every diaper change to dry the area before putting on a fresh diaper.

    We use cloth...much cheaper :)

When no diaper cream would work for us, we tried bag balm. You can find it in the pet section of wal-mart...works wonders.

We just got over bad diaper rashes (as in plural - ouch)! I talked to the pharmacist and she recommended that I use hydrocortisone cream 1x/day on their bottom...and then Desitin throughout the day for 1 week. If it wouldn't have cleared up in a week then she recommended that I see the pedi. Luckily ours cleared up. She also said that we should use A&D as a preventative seal going forward.

We use pampers...sorry I can't help you on that front either.

I use luvs with the twins and LOVE them!! I will say with my 1st DS I was kind of a "diaper snob" (LOL) and would only use pampers (and huggies on occasion). . .my MIL bought us the luvs from Diapers.com because they were running a special and found that I like them a lOT MORE than the pampers (especially for the price!)...I only have leaking problems when they are getting too big for their size and then we just move to the next size. . . They even wear them for 10 hours at night and haven't had any problems with them...

As far as diaper cream, I use Desitin (at night) as a preventative cuz my DS has very sensitive skin. And if he does have a diaper rash I use Aquafor and Desitin. The creamy Desitin doesn't really work too well, in my opinion. The Original Desitin is the best because it has the highest percentage of Zinc Oxide. . .

    Good Luck!!

we've tried all diapers and they give my girls bad diaper rash so we were back to pampers. i use a lot of coupons and go to where they are on sale. as far as diaper rash creme is considered, personally i believe it's all a rip off. i must have tried a gazillion and none of them worked. i give the girls naked time every day and use vaseline. also, i never let them sit in a soiled diaper...i wouldn't sit in my wet underwear so why let my babies do it?

my baby, logan, had bad diaper rash and none of the over the counter creams worked....so we got a Rx for vusion cream and his rash (bleeding) cleared up almost instantly! it was expensive b/c our insurance doesn't cover it, but you'll never have diaper rash again.
