How long did your new baby need newborn diapers? I know it depends on the weight of the baby but I want to have at least some diapers on hand and I have no idea how much he's going to weigh. So far my biggest baby has been 6lb 12 oz. Do you have a favorite brand? I tend to like the Pampers Swaddlers for my newborns but I was thinking about trying the Kirkland brand size 1-2 after that, any experience with those? I live on an island and the diapers at our local store are expensive so I want to stock up. Thanks!

I used newborn diapers up to 6 weeks...we also used and loved the Swaddlers.

I can only speak about Pampers Swaddlers newborn size because that is what we used. And don't believe that they will last until your baby hits 10 lbs! They claim to fit 6 - 10lb babies. But by 8 lbs they were getting pretty snug on our boys and by 9 lbs they were TIGHT and we had to stop using them (though I contemplated using duct tape for our remaining diapers, LOL). Unfortunately I had just bought 2 ginormous boxes of newborn size pampers from diapers.com, so we ended up giving away like 6 packs of 20 count diapers to others with newborns.

The only other brand I've tried are Target brand size 2. They were ok but they seemed a little rough and not as soft as Pampers. Plus it seemed like they would leak a little bit more than the pampers. Not a lot more, and maybe I put them on wrong, but I just don't usually have a problem with leaky Pampers. The only time Pampers leak for me is sometimes when our boys sleep 10+ hours at night (but not every night, and they've been STTN pretty consistently lately).

I used swaddlers newborn for about 1.5 months. My twins grew slowly, at 8lbs we moved into a size 1 diaper. Right now we are using the size 1-2 kirkland brand and I love them. They fit fine. If you need to order diapers, diapers.com is a good site/cheap.

We also used Pampers NB until 8lbs. Then we switched to the BJs brand which we love. We received Huggies as a gift and did not like them. I have heard good things about Kirkland as well.

We only used newborn for about a month after they came home. They came home at 5.5lbs and I switched them to 1s around 7lbs. That wasn't because newborns didn't fit, but because we were out and I didn't want to buy more because I knew they'd outgrow them soon. I just use 1s and roll the top down a little bit. I actually tried a NB size on one of them a few days ago and it was too tight for their thighs lol.

We tried pampers swaddlers, targets, and huggies. My hubby and I both loved the swaddlers, they fit very well and didn't have any leaking problems. Targets brand leaked on us and seemed to have given our boys rashes. Huggies are okay, but we've had a couple blow outs and they just dont seem to fit to their bodies as well. I live in Hawaii and I know diapers.com doesn't work for us here, so IDK if you can use them in Alaska either.

Not long! I bought the newborn diapers, basically as needed, whereas I stocked up on the bigger sizes. I used Kirkland for awhile, until I found out Target brand were cheaper and worked just as well for us.

We used NB diapers for about 2 months. Our babies were slow to gain. We probably could have switched to size 1 sooner, though. For NB, we used the Swaddlers. We have used the Kirkland diapers and they are nice. However, we have been using the Target brand for months. They are cheaper and stop leaks just as well.

Yeah I wish Diapers.com would deliver to AK but unfortunately no. I think I'll just get one package of the swaddlers and tape the receipt to it just in case he's too big, which I doubt. We don't have any big name stores such as Target in our town so since Costco will barge stuff to us I think I'll order a few boxes of the Kirkland 1-2 diapers to start. If I don't end up liking them then my only other option from Costco is Huggies which I've used for the girls and had no issues, but I've heard they don't work so well for boys? Thanks for your help! :)

it was about a month..jack a little sooner, about 3 weeks or so..i had only bought 2 boxes of the newborn size, and by the end of the 2nd box, they were even tight on abbey...the babies were 7 pounds 2 oz and 6 pounds 8 oz at birth...i know jack got below 7 before we left the hospital and i *think* abbey got below 6 or right around there...we were there for 3 days...i'm judging abbey's weight on the fact that at 2 weeks old she was only at 6 pounds 4 oz...

I use Huggies diapers for my boys ever since they were born and had no issues so far. However, I don't follow much their instructions on weight. In other words, once the diaper begins leaking for 2 times or so, I upgrade to bigger size, even though my boys weigh for example 2 lbs less than the weight mentioned on the Huggies' diaper package.

I loved the swaddlers and I would say my tiny boys were in nb sized for 2-3 months (b/c I refused to by preemies diapers). They were in size 1 for another 3 months. I would say, your plan to just get 1-2 newborn packs and stock up on 1's is a great one! Also, since you've only had girls before...make sure the penis is pointed down and the diapers will leak less! :) Had to learn that one the hard way!

I liked the swaddlers too, but we always had big babies so they didn't last long. I never bought more than one or two packages at a time because they just don't fit for that long!

Huggies work better for us now that my skinny minis have some fat. I swear when they were not chunky, the pampers were best because the huggies would leak out the leg holes. Now that I've fattened them up (ok they are 12 lbs at 3 months so not really fat but I can dream), the huggies work just fine.

I used newborn diapers until they were 9 lbs. I actually just used one last week because I found one and didn't want to waste it (13 weeks). I swear I got about 7 different types of diapers for my shower and I only love pampers. Every other brand leaks, or is a rough material that rubs my girls skin raw. I love swaddlers, but will switch to huggies after pampers switch from swaddlers to cruisers. My whole family calls me a diaper snob, but I love my pampers swaddlers :)

Pampers worked best for my 5.13lb oldest ds (from swaddlers all the way to cruisers), huggies worked best for my 9.12 lb oldest dd (only the supremes, we needed all the elastic in it), and for my 6.4 and 7.2 twins I've tried pampers (leaked), target (leaked), walmart (leaked) and both types of huggies. The supremes feel the best (less bulk between the legs) but the regular huggies are cheaper so that's what we're using for both of them. My skinny little boy has the tabs overlapped in front, and my chubby daughter is about to outgrow the size 4's already!

Can you buy gift cards instead of stocking up on diapers?? That way you can buy what you need, as you need it, and not have a huge box pile of diapers sitting in your house! :)

I also used Huggies once my twins were out of preemie-NB diapers and loved them!! I agree with the above though - don't go by weight, go by leaks!

We used Swaddlers and whatever the Huggies brand was until we ran out of the free ones, then switched to the Parent's Choice (walmart) newborns because they were way cheaper and we didn't have too many issues with them. DS was only in NB for a month or two, DD a bit longer. We then switched to the Kirkland 1-2s which we felt were on par with, if not better than the Huggies...I personally thought the Huggies always smelled a little too much like pee :) We recently switched to Target Up and Up brand. They are the cheapest out there, even without a coupon, and we've had no problems with them.

I personally think that the NB size is worthless unless you have a really small baby. Even at the very beginning you can take the size 1 and fold down the front until the cord falls off. We used pampers swaddlers at the very beginning but they always seem to feel a little damp on the outside after a long sleep. We have been using huggies now because so far they seem to hold the most. Our babies are really big night pee-ers and have leaked through pampers swaddlers and baby dry. Have not tried the Kirkland or the target ones yet (We got enough from our shower to get through the first 3 months without having to buy any)

I've always used huggies or kirkland brand and used newborn for about 6 weeks. Mine were born at 36 weeks and were 4 and 5 lbs.

I've tried Pampers Swaddlers (used them when my lo's were newborns) and they were awesome. Our lo's were 7.2 and 5.4 at birth and they fit nicely. I've also tried the Kirkland's brand and the Wal Mart brand (Parent's Choice). I didn't really care for either of these brands, but they weren't bad. Huggies I did not have good luck with. My favorite are Luvs! I plan on using them right from the start with our new baby once she's here. They are awesome for boys and girls, the price is great, they have a nice scent like Pampers do and I have yet to have a leak with them.

We used Pampers Swaddlers with the boys and loved it we used for about a month. They were 6.9 and 6.4lbs when they were born. We used them with my daughter as well but she was 8.4lbs and only used it for couple of weeks before moving on to size 1.
