I was just reading a post about how many diapers I can expect to go through a day, week, month, etc.

As I prepare to buy more and more diapers, how many should I buy of Newborn? I have one bag that is already in the diaper stacker, a box of over 200 size 1-2, and one bag of size 1's so far. I know we have lots to buy, but I didn't know how many to buy of Newborn's vs. 1's.

    TIA!

Molly and Owen were born early - they came home from the hospital weighing 5lbs 11oz and 5lbs 3oz. We had them in preemies for a couple weeks, then NB for at least 6 weeks. We are still in size 1 at almost 5 months. Owen could wear size 2 - but, we have a lot of size 1 and I just want to use them. He doesn't leak out of them.... so I figure it's fine.

M and O are 5 months old and we still haven't bought any diapers. We got a TON of diapers at our showers. We have been so lucky!

Our babies were five pounders and in the newborn size for at least 2 months. HTH :) .

I know the twins will be early, since I'm already at risk for PTL. I'll say atleast a month then, and if we go through 20 a day then that would be at least 500 of NB and then stock up tons on the 1's.

Thanks for the help ladies, I really appreciate it. I'm trying to stock up before they get here so we won't have to run out too much once they are here.

Mine were in the NICU 5 and 6 weeks, born at 3lb4oz and 3lb8oz, and left the NICU at around 4.5 pounds each. After about 3 weeks in the NICU, they were in newborn size diapers. The preemie size isn't very absorbent. Shortly after coming home, I'd say around 7 pounds, we moved them to size 1's. Mine have always moved up diaper sizes long before they reached the max weight for that size.

It's hard to judge, I might have at least a bag or two on hand of newborn.

My boys were 5.9 and 6.2 and we had one package of preemies… but they wet too much for them, which resulted in lots of leaks… so after we finished the pack we went to newborn for a month… we are in 1’s right now at almost 2 months, but when I go to Target I am getting 2’s as my boys have doubled in size and they aren’t fitting as well… but I probably have a good week of 1’s in stock I will finish first… HTH

I would get some preemie as well. Mine were born at 37+4, but Maya was 4 lbs 8 oz. Both wore preemie size for a few weeks though. They were in Newborns for quite awhile too. I would get preemie and NB, and whatever you don't use you can take back.

My babies were born at 30 weeks and they are still in size 1's. They'll be 6 months old next week. I think they were in NB size until 4 months.

I wouldn't buy any more if I were you. Save up your coupons. I found that after a month in the NICU, we got a lot of free newborn sized diapers. One of the nurses accidentally opened a big bag of newborns when the boys were still too tiny for preemies and we got to take them all home. We also had some really nice nurses. I'm not sure that I bought any preemies and very few newborns once we got home. We were in size 1 for a while, but it's so hard to know. I ended up giving away a few bags of diapers that the boys grew out of. If you do buy more, tape the receipts to them. I also got a lot of diapers at my baby shower. Hope this helps!

My babies were born full term, both over 6 pounds and we used newborn diapers for the first 6 weeks, then size 1's for about 6 weeks. If you keep the receipt on what you buy you can always exchange them for a bigger size if you need them (and sometimes even without the receipt ;) )

I will start keeping receipts as I buy. I think I'll buy one more pack/box of NB and one more of size 1 and then maybe buy some 2's.

I won't be getting a shower, I had one with my daughter and tradition with our family is to only have one shower.

I would recommend buying as you go... don't buy too much in advance! I use cloth and disposable, mainly because people keep buying me diapers (and both our washer and our dryer have broke in the past couple of months  ), but there have been times that I've had to switch to all-disposable just so that I can hurry up and finish a pack of a certain size.

My guys were born at 35 weeks, and were 5.5 and 4.13. They were in preemies for a few weeks, then newborn for a few weeks. Then, one twin started getting much bigger than the other, so they've been in different sizes since about the 2-month mark. AJ only wore 1's for about a week before I had to bump him to 2's. At 5 months, I have one baby who just started 3's, and one who just started 4's.

Mine were born at 37 1/2 weeks and were on the large side for twins at 7.13 and 6.2. We used newborn diapers - I think we had about 500. We didn't buy anymore than the ones we already had though. We just switched to size 1 when we ran out. I honestly think we would not have had a big problem if we had just had all size 1s.

We just started using size 1's at about 7 weeks. They could probably still fit in newborns but they were a little snug. Mine were 4 lbs 12 ozs and 4 lbs 15 ozs when they were born. They now weigh 9 lbs 2 ozs and 8 lbs 6 ozs, well as of a week and a half ago anyway. It is hard to plan we just bought a bunch and then went from there. I think we went through at least 10-20 diapers a day in the beginning and then it slowed down as they got bigger, but I change them with every feeding usually and then occassionally they need it at other times. The average is changing every 2-4 hours they say.
