Today I took the girls to Book Time at the library. I knew Ansley had a dirty diaper but decided it would be cleaner to get her home to change it. Well, by the time I got her home, her skin was very irritated and has only gotten worse all day. All the reddness is raised and there are some little white bumps, too. I know I've read other posts about home remedies for bad diaper rash. Can you tell me what you use that will work? I am really hoping not to take her to the ped. over this. TIA!

    My peditrician recommends Triple Paste.

What is triple paste? a combination of 3? We got some sort of butt paste when my DD6 was in the PICU but each hospital has their own mixture as we noticed with DD4mo being in the PICU at a different hospital.

Our DDs got rashes that didn't go away so we went back to basics - warm wet cloth wipes, diapers that we knew didn't irritate them. We tried every kind of butt balm out there. Desitin, A&D, Balmex, Butt Paste, Top Care, etc. The final thing that seemed to work was wiping with warm wet cloths, air drying, using luv diapers, Butt paste with cornstarch baby powder to set it. and frequent changing. Since we are also bottle feeding EBM we decided not to take any chances that it may not be a yeast infection and got primadophilus jr. pills and cracked them open to add them to their milk once a day.

Triple paste is also the ONLY thing that works for us, as well as Aveno baths. Triple paste is a brand name; you can find it in drugstores anywehere usually. I get it at CVS.
I also let them REALLY air dry before applying it. Or let them run around naked for 10 minutes to be sure it gets lots of air; just be prepared to clean up pee if you need to.

bathing in baking soda works well for us when she gets a rash. The rest of the time to prevent a rash we use tons of vaseline. I had tried everything and nothing worked. The ped said try vaseline I did and it really prevents it from coming back

But to get rid of it a baking soda bath and an air dry and it goes away pretty quickly!

We also use probiotics and since we started no one has had a diaper rash. DD's eczema is essentially gone, the reflux is mostly gone, and no one has been sick. Before that we lived at the PEDS!

Good Luck and I hope her poor butt gets better soon!

Plain corn starch from the kitchen can also do wonders!

The thing that really worked for me was blow drying the diaper area during each change to get it dry, then apply aquafor. Just be careful the dryer isn't too hot, I usually used a blast of warm and then set it to cool. Sounds strange I know, but this was the only thing that worked when DD got a horrible diaper rash. This worked better for me than letting her "air out". Good luck!

I am a HUGE fan of Triple Paste, I just slather it on really thick and it starts clearing up in 1-2 diaper changes. Works like a charm every single time even on the worst of the worst.

Ditto on the Triple Paste. It is ridiculously expensive though. A tub of it is $30 at CVS here. What we do when we see it is

    1) no more wipes. Just use a wet wash cloth to clean up any messes
    2) blow dry on cool or air dry by blowing on the area (with my mouth) and patting dry with a dry washcloth
    3) tons of Triple Paste

Ususally would clear up in a day or two ...

If you continue to see the white stuff though, you may want to take to your pedi. Sometimes a yeast infection can occur on the area and they will suggest using Lotrimin as well.

Good luck and hope they feel better!
