One baby has a stomach bug, so her little bottom is so super red, even though I'm changing her constantly. Now her sister is SCREAMING while I'm wiping her bottom today too and it looks pretty red. I've been through the yeast infection rash....I think these are just sore, sensitive bottoms.

I've been using balmex and desitin but am looking for a cure!

I love Triple Paste. Works great and recommended by my pedi and my friends' pedis. Hope it gets better. Poor baby. :hug99:

Ditto that recommendation. I've also heard that Butt Balm (maybe with someone's name in it) works pretty well, too, but I've never tried that one.

For us, Desitin works the best, we use the creamy every night and the Original when things look raw. One of the biggest things that helps DS though is airtime, we do alot of 'naked' baby time in the evening before bed, just lay out a big, washable blanket!!

Look for something with a high percentage of zinc oxide in it. Bordoux(sp) Butt Paste I have used. Also my dr recommend Lotrimin topical cream (also called Clotrimazole) once when we were in with a bad rash from a stomach bug. You can get it over the counter but if you can't find it ask the pharmist and they can tell you.

Call your pedi's office and ask them to fax a RX for the prescription Butt Paste to your pharmacy. I guarantee it will clear up quicker than any over the counter ointment!!

Butt (pun intended) if you can't do that, I like Bodreaux's for a bad rash and Desitin for daily use.

    Good Luck!

I am a butt paste person myself. The only rash I have ever saw it not work on was the thrush related one my little guy had not too long after birth.

All of the pastes that has been mentioned are good, but remember to air her bum a little everytime you change her and make sure that before you apply the pastes that her bottom is dry, otherwise it just traps the moisture. Also do not use baby wipes as this can also irritate the rash, Rather use a clean warm cloth,. This will also sooth her sore bottom. Corn starch and egg white is also old folk remedies that does work. Good luck and I hope that it gets better soon.

I love Bordreauxs Butt Paste. Worked better than anything else I've used. We never seemed to have a yeast based rash though. Just irritation. I like aquaphor too.

We just had a bad diaper rash after a stomach bug and it ended up being a staph infection. If the overall redness gets spotty, but the spots are bigger than yeast get to a doctor. I tried everything to treat it before we went in. Even the PED thought it was yeast until she saw it and then she thought it was nothing, but she swabbed it anyways. Turned out she had a very bad case of a staph infection.

Also, the thing that helped most was putting lanolin over the medicine or desitin or whatever. It stops the diaper from rubbing it off overnight!

    Good Luck!

I swear by this stuff - Graham Slam diaper paste - its from a local compounding pharmacy here in Cleveland Hts Ohio, but you can buy it online as well. It SAVED by daughters butt and worked amazingly fast.

www.grahamslambaby.com - I'm going on memory for the web page (HA!!!!) , so if that doesn't work, google Graham Slam

We just had our dd to a pediatric dermatologist for a persistent diaper rash. Thank god what I thought was bad was not but he did say to use any of the zinc oxide creams and apply it with a tongue dipressor and put it on like you were icing a cake. When the baby poops instead of wiping it off, sit her in a tub and with that much cream on the poop should just fall off. Use a blow dryer to dry her off, cool air of course and only use water no wipes when cleaning. If the zinc gets too caked on he suggested using mineral oil to remove. GL is understand where you are coming from.

Giving them a bath and letting their bum's air out is the best method, but otherwise using a warm wet washcloth, drying the area and Beadreaux's butt paste works great.

Ditto... when it was soooo raw that nothing would stick to it, Aquaphor always healed it up very fast!

I have Aquphor, Butt Paste, Desitin, Balmex, etc - etc.........but what the doctor recommends once all of those don't work is the 1% Hydro that you can get at Walgreens or Target. That works great and quick!!!
Hope their butt rash goes away quick -

By the way - make sure the wipes that you're using have no alcohol on them - because that will also irritate their skin right now. If in doubt, try and use some tissue - just put some warm water on it to help wipe. :D

I swear by Triple Paste over here. Conner just had a sore bum last week that was SOOO raw it was bleeding & after 2 applications of Triple Paste, he was almost himself again!

I also tried air time, but I'm not sure it worked. We let him lay naked on a towel (with a soaker underneath...he always seemed to pee during naked time!), but everywhere his rash was wasn't getting aired out. All his soreness was in the crevices :).

I've heard LOTS of mommies & daddies SWEAR by the sun (as in taking naked baby outside for a few mins in the sun). I didn't get to try that method because I live in WI, but I will this summer if the sore tush returns!

    Good luck...diaper rash sucks!
