Does anyone have a remedy they can suggest? I initially tried A&D but saw quick that wasn't going to do it, so I switched to Boudreaux's Butt Paste and it's not doing anything for her. In the past, if they had a stubborn one, the butt paste knocked it out almost immediately. Poor baby is in pain, any suggestions before I put a call in to the pediatrician?

    Thanks!

when the diaper rash is that bad, I try to give them lots of "air-time" - which is always pleasant isn't it?? Thank god I have hardwood floors b/c I have had some MAJOR messes to clean up!!! I also soak them in the bathtub w/ baking soda a couple times a day.

From my experience, all the over-the counter diaper rash creams work the same.....pick one (preferably a zinc oxide based one)...if all this doesn't work then I would call the pedi and ask for nystatin!!! hope this helps!!

What does the rash look like? Are there any bumps or pimple like things? Or is it just red? Is it broken? It could be yeast, staph or just a regular rash depending on what it looks like. Different creams would help different rashes...

What does the rash look like? When Sam got a bumpy looking rash, she had yeast and needed prescription. You can do a google search to see diaper rash pics (beware: some of those pics are horrific).

anyway, the overnight desitin (purple container) has the highest zinc oxide at 40%. We've found that works best for us. Target even sells big jars of it. Aquafor can help. And lots and lots of open air time. (or drying the butt thorougly before putting on the "barrier" of desitin). Some moms use a hair dryer on cold setting. my kids hate that.

tylenol for pain can help too.

No bumps, but it's flaming red and seems to me to be spreading or at least looking worse.

OMG, I just did that google search before reading this. Yikes, Sarah's definitely doesn't look nearly as bad as some of them. I am going to take a good look again in the am to get a better idea of what I'm dealing with. After doing my search, I now know I'm completely clueless, I had no idea the amount of different things it could potentially be.

I wanted to agree with the PP that suggested the overnight Desitin in the purple tube - that is exactly what we use b/c it has the highest amount of zinc oxide in it and stays on the best....the others that I have tried are too creamy....

If there are little red bumps it's usually yeast (we have used Vusion for this - you need an Rx for it though).....if it's persistent extreme redness with occasional open sores it's probably bacteria (you need nystatin and you need an Rx)...

If there are extremely large open sores, then it could be infected and you should definitely go to the pedi...

My girls had Hand, Foot and Mouth disease a few months ago and had the WORST diaper rash with really bad redness and some open sores on their bottoms....we used Nystatin on the sores and then a barrier of Overnight Desitin on top of the whole area....one of my daughters still has scars on her little bum from the open sores!! But they healed up quickly once we started the Nystatin...

I would go with the full strength desitin! I hope it clears up quickly :)

My daughter has been dealing with a horrible diaper rash too. We tried everything, including prescription "Magic Butt Paste" which didn't work. The peds office then suggested trying Resinol (you buy it by the pharmacy section but it is non prescription). It worked like a charm....and was the only thing that worked! Good luck and I hope your little one is doing better soon!

Thank you!! I called my pediatrician's office this morning. They called her in some Nystatin. They said to alternate changings doing Nystatin, then Nystatin again, hydrocortizone, A&D, then start over again, but use the overnight Desitin for overnights.

Thanks again for everyone's responses!! Hopefully this'll knock it out!!

glad the pedi had some suggestions. I wanted to second the first reply that suggested lots of air time. That is the #1 thing for any diaper rash b/c it keeps the areas dry and clean. At that age it starts getting harder, but we would lay out an old comforter and keep them entertained there so that if they peed, we could toss it in the wash. I can't remember many "accidents" from those times though.
