I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I want to ask one more. Gracie has a terrible diaper rash. I have been changing her diaper frequently and using the rash cream, but she still has a very raw area that I cannot get to heal. A few times a day I have just wrapped a towel around her bare bum to try and let some air get to it, but it just doesn't seem to give in.

    Any ideas?

Could be a yeasty rash, which won't respond to regular diaper rash stuff. Try Lotrimin, or Monistat.

You can also just use water to clean her, no wipes. And get some good butt paste, like Triple Paste. Even if it is a yeast rash, you should still keep a good butt paste around for diapery rashes too. [IMG]

diaper rash looks red and angry...yeast has ridges that bleed if not taken care of. if mine get one, they get the other, so i use a combo of a yeast cream (lotrimin over the counter or niastatin RX) and diaper cream (i like desitin the best as it does not rub off in the diaper). I have on occasion had to get an Rx for diaper rash, but my pedi also told me to use a mixture of Eucerin (the real kind in the tub, not generic) and maalox- mix together until a consistency like frosting! works great!

We try one of two things?

If really raw/bloody looking rash we use Mylanta directly on the rash and then Butt Paste on top of that.

If a lot of red bumps type of rash and the butt paste isn't doing anything we use Eucerin.

We brought "butt balm" home from the hospital. It has niastatin and some other goopy stuff that works very well. I second the desitin, as that worked wonders with my older son. After 4 months, we're still working our way through a little container we got from the NICU.

Oh- and if you are giving them juice, stop for a bit. The acidity in the juice can make diaper rash worse.

Bordeaux's Butt Paste worked WONDERS for us within 24 hours....my DS was on antibiotics and he had bad diarrhea that broke down his skin. The Butt Paste was awesome!

aquaphor works great, too. just make sure the skin is dry before you put it on.

My family has always used Desitin. I saw people post here about the Butt Paste. Who would name their product that!! I never got it because I thought it sounded kind of generic I guess. ANyways, my boys had horrible rashes a few weeks ago and Desitin was not doing the trick. I went out and got the Butt Paste and sure enough it took care of their rash. I know products work differntly for all babies but if you have not tried this product, maybe it will help. I thought it was interesting that the ingredients in Butt Paste and Desitin were very different.

    This is what I did....

I would get them dried off completely using a little bit of powder. Let them air dry as long as possible and then brush the powder off a little. Then, rub in the "girlie goo" (brands that Becky recommended) as well as you can and THEN COAT AS THICK AS POSSIBLE with regular Desitin - that's not the creamy kind! You need staying power!!

That'll kick it!! I used to also feed lots of bananas and applesauce to get the bowels to slow a little....
