I have been having the toughest time with what I think is diaper rash, but looks a little more suspect to me...First DS had a couple of these little bumps that look like blisters, then they open up and expose a little sore, round and hollow and sad! They sometimes even bleed if they get super irritated. IT took about amonth for DS's to go away and they leave a little scar, but now DD has them all over her little private area and I KNOW they hurt, but there isnt' anything that seems to work! I have tried about EVERY type of ointment, both medicated and not and anti-fungal creams as well...tried airing their bottoms out, etc etc...Everything I can think of. We also use cloth diapers and haven't had problems with diaper rash until this issue. PLEase tell me someone else has had this. I also took a quick shot of DD's area and was wondering if it's ok to post a photo? To get some advice. Maybe a PM photo if someone wants to help out? TIA!!

When you say "medicated" do you mean OTC or RX? M had a diaper rash that cleared up when we used neosporin or A&D but it would reappear after a couple days. We took her to the dr who diagnosed it as a yeast infection and prescribed Nystatin. That cleared it up within 2 days. If you want to send me the pic I can tell you if the sores looked like M's.

    Good luck

Sounds weird to suggest this probably, but could it be a staph infection? Scary, but both of mine have had staph. G brought it home after circumcision and E got it too.....It's very very easily spread and it goes away with a cream the dr. gives us. I can look too if you send a pic!! HTH

Awww, how sad. I'd take them to the ped. Just in case they need something prescription.

The doc looked at DS when he was in for his 16 month visit, but it wasn't very inflamed so he just 'prescribed' an anti-fungal (I gave him tolnaftate 1% which is the same thing) and it didn't really work either. Sending some pics...thanks!

Mine have had a staph infection on their bottoms and needed an antibiotic to clear it up. If it has been there for more than a week or keeps coming back I would take them to the pedi. Yeast is also a possibility, but should have responded to the antifungals. Until you can get to the pedi use neosporin! I hope it clears up soon!

Diagnosis: our friend the PA gave us the Mupirocin and a mild yeast cream as she says they have both a yeast issue and bacteria...all thanks to the cloth diapers. During the day they are changed frequently and probably fine, but at night they are in the diapers for atleast 12-13 hours so of course this happens. I'm glad we waited 18 months for it, but glad to be able to get it taken care of quickly. We're also switching to Next Generation disposables at night...I guess the environment can take a little abuse, I have been using cloth for almost a year and a half!

ETA: Thanks for all the response, I love my twin mom network as you ladies have seen it all and BTDT!

so glad you found out what was wrong, jake has had a similiar issue...it has led to much diaper removal!

on the subject of eco disposables, switching to 7th generation is what made the problem worse. The pedi said they aren't as absorbent, hence the problem.

I would really consider using pampers for overnight.

Or, do a 'nighttime diaper change' (i've been known to do a few).
