Okay, so DS has just started sleeping 7p-7:30a, yipee!!! I put him in huggies overnights because they are the only ones that don't leak. but he's developed diaper rash since he started sleeping that long, presumably b/c he's in the same diaper for 13-14 hours!! When they wake at 7:30 i feed them, and then do baths, so it seems silly to change him at 7:30 and then again at 8/8:30, but maybe i should??. I put a ton of butt paste on him before bed. Is there anything else I can do to make the rash go away and prevent it from coming back??

I would change him right when he wakes, the sitting, etc in when he wakes before bath time may be bothering him.

Also some thoughts: could it be the diapers? Have you tried another diaper cream? Is he teething?

I started using the overnights on Sofia (they dont fit Maia yet), I LOVE them!! I dont change their diapers in the night because it wakes them up.
I just load them both up (like ridiculous amounts!) with vasoline before bed so they are protected from the moisture.

He is in fact teething (pretty early too), does that contribute to diaper rash? I just thought it was because he was sleeping longer at night and not getting that late night diaper change. . .hmm. . .

I agree with pps. I would change upon waking...if they don't wet that diaper you can always put it back on after bath time...unless that's yucky to you. I figure if it's dry...it's dry. Anyway...I was thinking maybe the diaper itself or teething.

Hope you get it figured out.

Someone posted on here awhile ago that she puts the diaper rash cream on, then a layer of vaseline so the diaper doesn't rub off/soak up the diaper rash cream. Maybe that would help. It's also good to let them "air out" a little. We used to have "naked time" and I would let them go without their diapers for a little bit. Just make sure you have some Resolve!! :D

teething can make diaper rash worse as they have sooooo much extra saliva and it tends to make thier poops pretty irritating. I would REALLY sather on the cream at all diaper changes for a while and see if that helps :)

Yes, change when wake and then if they don't soil that diaper before bath, just re-use it.

Thanks for the advice, that is so interesting about extra salivia from teething contributing to diaper rash, makes sense! His bum is looking better today, I've been changing his diaper like every hour and slathering on the cream, we also did naked tummy time this morning, very exciting stuff! I'm just hoping once it clears up I can try to keep it from coming back, I feel like a bad mom for letting my kid get a rash.

I've brought some really cheap nappies for those times you know they aren't going to be in them for very long. I always feel that it's a waste to use a Huggies when it's only for a short time and this seems to solve the problem for me anyway

Great news that he's sleeping straight threw!!! Question, what size is he wearing in the overnights? I haven't found them any smaller than size 4 (I think).

On diapers.com you can buy the huggies overnights in a 3, I haven't found them that small in the store. They are a bit big on him, but keep him from leaking.

I found the size 3's at Stop & Shop. I use them on one of my girls and they are a little bit big, they're huge on my other girl.
She leaked through one this morning though! I am thinking I didnt secure it well enough last night. Because they are slightly big I have to put them on perfectly.

I would try putting him in one of his regular diapers with an extra one on top of it. Do this for one night and see if he still has a reaction. If he doesn't, then you know it's the Overnights that are bothering him.
