I am curious to know what the moms out there think of diapers pails like the Diaper Genie. It seems like everyone I know always register for them but I never know if they end up liking them. I tried looking at consumer product reviews but just got more confused. I am looking for something to use upstairs only and some friends have just recommended putting the stinky diapers in little plastic bags when needed and just using a regular trash can with a lid and empty it frequently. Is that crazy? WDYT?

I vote waste. Our never worked right and was a hassle. I just take dirties out to the dumpster and peepee diapers in the kitchen trash

I had one with my oldest DD, but didn't like it so we stopped using it. Never even used it with the twins. I just put their diapers in scented diaper sacks or plastic bags. Personally I think it's a waste of money.

We had a Diaper Champ with the twins and we really liked it! This daiper pail doesn't need any specail bags, just a regular kitchen sized trash bag. I put a few of those stick on air fresheners on the inside of it, because it does smell when you open it up to change the trash bag. But, I think anything will smell bad after holding all of those diapers.

I think the only real difference between the Diaper Champ and a trash can with a lid is that the Diaper Champ is probably made out of material that is "heavy duty" and mede for holding in oder. (I'm just guessing).

We are having a baby in November andd plan on getting aother Diaper Champ this time around.

I used one with my oldest dd but when the next 2 kids came I just threw the diapers in the garbage and didnt waste my time with the diaper genie. My vote is waste!!!

I didnt use one either, why store them inside if they are bad anyway? Just throw them out in the trash!

i vote waste, too. I have a small can from walmart w/ a step thing to open it up and it's been great. Face it, w/ twins you have to take the bag out a lot - and nothing's goign to smell great - but this one keeps odor inside it and when I spray it's insides the odor goes away. I've heard that the "genies" just don't last and are a waste of money. You'll have lots of other things to buy. :) :)

I'll be the odd man out - we don't make that much trash (or at least we didn't until the girls started eating table foods) - I loved our Diaper Genie for those early months. I just used it for the dirty diapers. Wet diapers went in the regular garbage.

I think it was useful for my sister, but my bf got one with her dd and never used it, mainly bc she just changed her daughter wherever. She gave hers gto me and I'm planning on using it in our room, where the changing table is set up. I think it just depends. Maybe you could borrow one??

I vote necessity. I can't imagine having to run a poopy diaper all the way to the kitchen, let alone the outside trash can, every time. We empty our Diaper Champ every couple of days (we'd have to do it more if they weren't in daycare). It didn't really start to stink until they were toddlers, but we still use it, we just empty it more often.

I guess we could have accomplished the same thing with a large metal can with a lid, but those are more expensive than diaper pails! (Especially b/c we got ours for $5 at the twins' club sale. ;) )

We had a Diaper Genie and really liked it when the girls were small. We had no odor problems with it until they were 1+ when they were eating more meat but it wasn't too bad. It was great because it got us through the stage when we were constantly changing diapers. We actually had to replace our slide-out garbage can in the kitchen because DH started putting wet diapers in there too often and it absorbed the odors much more than the Genie did.

I give a thumbs down to the diaper genie and a definate thumbs up to the diaper champ. I can't imagine not having a diaper pail but I wouldn't want to go through the hassle of a diaper genie. And the idea of putting glade stick ups in the diaper pail is genius. I do it and never have a smell issue. But I also wrap up poopie diapers in the sented bags before throwing them away in the pail.

We had a Diaper Champ in their bedroom, which is on the second floor. We did use it at first, when there were lots of diaper changes up there. But once they slept through the night we didn't use it anymore. Downstairs, dirties get wrapped in plastic grocery bags and tossed in the trash, wet ones go straight to the trash. Then we change the trash daily or more often.

So I vote used, although if I had a ranch style house it would have been a waste.

I'll vote for LOVING my Diaper Champ!!!! Like pp said, I put up air freshener stickies inside and usually used a scented bag on the inside. We never had aproblem with it smelling and it sat in our living room for a year. If it was a REALLY nasty poop or something like it, it went straitght out to the garbage. I will definitely be using it again once this baby comes along. We used it until my girls started eating table food...by that time, they poop started smelling too bad to leave it in the diaper champ.

I also think it's a waste of money. The diapers sit around in those pails for a week at a time and get all nasty. We decided that we emptied our household trash often enough that it wouldn't become an issue. For the really nasty ones, we double bag and take it out to the garbage bins right away!

we use the diaper dekor and like it. it does get stinky though the more poopy diapers in it...but i find it easy to use and easy to take the bag out and get rid of it. just my 2 cents.

Necessity. We love our diaper champ - the fact that it uses regular garbage bags is a bonus.

Before I had my first, I heard from everyone I knew who had a baby that if they did buy the Diaper Genie, they only ended up using them for a short time because they were just too much work and too much of a pain. I bought the Diaper Champ; it was only about $30 and it works with grocery bags. It's not a high tech diaper pail like the Genie, but it works and isn't expensive.

There is nothing worse than trying to shove a very full wet or dirty diaper into the Diaper Genie. I used it at first but then it was so much easier to just put a little wastebasket (I finally found a use for all those blue plastic grocery bags)next to the changing table. The diaper pails just wouldn't hold enough and they were just a pain.

We had a Diaper Dekor and used it until the girls were a little over a year old. The smell got to be a bit much at the table food stage, but definately worth it the first year! Its much more convenient to have a diaper pail right where you change them instead of carting dirty diapers through the house to the main trash can. We also used Stick Ups.
