For the past few weeks our diaper pail stinks even when we empty it out. I tried washing it out with soap and water yesterday but I can't get rid of the smell. My mom suggested scented trash bags but I would rather eliminate the poop smell than have a flowery-poop scented diaper pail. KWIM? Any suggestions?

I spray the pail down with Lysol every time I empty it. That seems to keep the smell at bay. You could probably try a bleach solution and air it out (outside) and see if that works. GL! -Leighann

Maybe you could try baking soda?

Baking soda and/or bleach seem to help. I also bring it outside sometimes to let it air out. I just leave it open for a while and let the fresh air just get in there. That seems to help too.

We tried the sented bags-- didn't work. We did put a linen sented fragrance jar down there. It has helped a bunch! You used to smell it when you walked in the house-- even when it was empty. Now, it's much better and you only smell the stench when you empty it!

I have snuggle dryers sheets in mine (it is just a trash can) and i use the hefty white trash bags and empty every 3 days or so. We also double bag (generic ziplock bags) the poopy diapers. The plastic does not smell at all. Good Luck!

Someone on here suggested rubbing alcohol one time. I haven't tried it, but you could.

We cloth diapered and used a kitchen trashcan with a waterproof cloth liner. It had a lid, but we rarely used it. A cotton ball or piece of fleece with 10-12 drops of tea tree oil kept the bathroom smelling fresh and not poopy. I would wash it out with a tea tree oil and water solution or castille soap and then keep a cotton ball with TTO on it in the pail. It sounds weird, I realize, but heck...it smelled good and didn't leave us dealing with a bunch of chemicals all the time!
