We have the diaper champ and boy do i hate it. You have to wrap the wipes up in the diaper or else they come back up when you throw another diaper away. I throw one stinky diaper in it and it smells the whole nursery up. I have resorted to putting it in the hall for now and plan on getting something new. My biggest concern is the smell. What do you use and are you happy with it?

We have a diaper champ (in the bathroom) and we also use our regular trash barrel. Honestly, I don't think there is anything that can REALLY hide the smell.

We also have the Diaper Champ. I have the same issues with the wipes (or anything else like tissues). What we do when there is a poopy diaper is after we put it in, we open the lid and spray Nutra Air which seems to help kill the odor. Yes it is an extra step but I really don't want to buy another type of diaper system that requires special bags.

I have the Diaper champ and had this problem too, I got some of those blue Sassy bags from walmart and wrap the poopies in those to help with the smell. I like it better than my sister's old diaper Genie, it was a PITA. Now the babies poopies are more solid, I dump them in the toilet and this helps alot. HTH! (I still wrap those diapers up.)

After 3 years, I am ready to burn the Diaper Champ in a FIRE IN THE STREET (except it would stink up the hood!)!!! It SMELLS!!! I don't know anything else, so I can't help. Just wanted you to know that I feel your pain!!! (I didn't have that problem too much, but it just plain STINKS! and so does the room!!!)

We never used the Diaper Champ, but I thought I'd share what we did. We used a regular trashcan and put all the stinkies in cheap ziplock bags. We took the bag out every night.

I also hate the Diaper Champ, but not for the same reasons!! :) I don't have a problem w/ it smelling and I put the wipes in the dipe anyway. It is just hard for me to turn and is just a pain. I'd rather have a normal trash can I think!

We were given the diaper champ but then were told how nasty they get. We take out the regular trash enough that we decided we didn't need any kind of special diaper can, especially with 3 in diapers!

I had the Diaper Champ and hated it too! I switched over to a regular trash can with a good lid, and life is SO much easier now. No problem with odors.

We've had both the daiper champ and daiper genie - the only thing that really takes the smell away is taking the daipers outside. Target sells rolls of small scented garbage bags that are pretty reasonable; if you'd rather not take the garbage out that often, you could wrap the daipers in a scented bag when you toss them out.

Otherwise - I have candles everywhere!

We have the Diaper Genie II and at the bottom we taped one of those Yankee Candle car gel scents (a tip from a friend). Definitely does help with the smell!

I do not put poops in the diaper pail. I don't care which pail it is.. The idea of POOP in my babies' room is repulsive!! I have a roll of small garbage bags next to the changing pad and I put the poops in there and tie them off.. It has been GREAT because when I used to put poops in there I wanted to SCREAM when things went BAD with the Champ! For example; poop getting hung up in there.. OMG I'd just start puking!

ANyway, pee dipes only now! It is soo much more sanitary and great! I bleached out the Champ before I started this so it no longer stinks!

We have the Diaper Genie II and love love love it. I keep it at my downstairs changing station which happens to be in the living room, and we have NEVER had a problem. We empty it every other day and have never had issues with the smell. It's a pain to buy the refills but I buy them in bulk to make it a little cheaper.

Just put a bounce fabric softner sheet in it and that takes care of the smell as for the wipes we just put the wipes in the diaper also.

We had a Diaper Champ and hated it too. Now we have this from First Years. We really like it a lot. And it takes regular trash bags, so we don't have to buy anything special!

    HTH!

I am one of the few that LOVES their diaper champ. We use a carbon deoderizer in the bottom or a car deoderizer and that helps a ton. My girlfriend had one and had problems with the odor. She called the company and they sent her a new seal and that helped a ton. We also stick the wipes in the diapers and roll the diapers and fasten them with the tabs, that helps contain some of the smell. The really stinky ones we either throw them in a plastic grocery bag, wrap them then toss them in or we just take that right outside.

i used the diaper genie and it also had some odor but what really worked well was a regular garbage can and walmart bags. i just put the diapers in the walmart bag and 1 or 2 time per day take the whole bag to the outside trash. it was more smelly in the summer but not at all in winter. i just got sick of paying for the diaper genie refills.

We have the Diaper Genie II (2 of them actually - one upstairs in their room & one downstairs!) and they have never been stinky??? The only time I notice stink is when I change the bag & accidentaly open the bag too big when tying it up.

I have also heard really good things about the Diaper Dekor?

I've got the Diaper Dekor and it smells. I've given up using it and just use the disposable bags.

same here! it is a pain to buy the refills, but like a pp said, we buy in bulk at BJs..they are about $4-$5 and they last about 3-4wks around here! NEVER a problem w/ stink..even w. the stomach bug, etc!

I had a diaper champ and didn't really have that issue, but after a while we just started wrapping dirty diapers in a plastic grocery bag, and putting them in the regular garbage. It goes out at least once a day, and we never have a smell issue. It was just a lot less hassle for us.

We never had a diaper champ or genie because all of my friends warned me of before I registered that they are a pain and end of smelling up the nursery anyway. We do the same....wrap them up in plastic grocery bags and throw them outside immediately.

I find this a tad funny. I used a diaper champ with my first boys who are almost 6 and 8. Then bought another for the twins. All diaper pails smell. It's the nature of the beast. ;) I always wrap the wipes up in the diaper, because if not, ewwww!!!! I wouldn't want to clean the trash can or diaper pail from all the wipes. My Dh changes the bag and sprays the pail with lysol for the germ factor. But it's on my main level and in a stairway to the basement. I'll just be glad to not have diapers anymore period.
Hope you all find something that works for your family. My sister uses her outside huge trash bin for all diapers. I guess, to each their own. :)

we keep a waste basket in the boys' room for wipes that don't go into the diaper champ. fwiw - this is a new design flaw. our old one (from dd) never had this problem.
