i bought all these different kinds of diaper cream, butt paste, etc before the babies were born. now that they're here, i find myself basically never using it. should i be applying it with every diaper change, even if there are no reddened or worrisome areas? is that what you all do? and in a girl baby, do you apply it to the labia (dont know if i'm allowed to say that! ) too or just the bottom? just trying to find out a concensus as to what most people do? tia,

I didn't start using it at all until we started battling bad diaper rashes. Now if I don't put it on they get red in between diaper changes, so I just do it with every change. I think it might be worse because it has been so hot here. If they are not red I wouldn't worry about it.

We only use it here when they have actual diaper rash, or are getting red in places.

I just use it when they look pink or red. But so far we haven't had a major diaper rash- just a little redness. With DD I try to keep it just on her bottom. I don't know if it would, but I didn't want her to get a UTI or anything.

Our ped had recommended using Vaseline for every diaper change to help protect the skin and prevent diaper rash. She said it worked just as good at preventing as the other creams and was much cheaper. I noticed if I don't then they get red and I would have to use the diaper rash cream. So we just use Vaseline for every change.

In the beginning when we were changing them at night I didn't use it but found that once they sttn and were in diapers for 12-13 hours they were getting red and irritated looking. Since then I put desitin on every night and haven't had any more issues.

We use A&D ointment with every diaper change with our 6 week old twin girls.
We also have tons of Desitin, Triple Paste, and a few others, all from our baby showers.
My mom likes the A&D, so we just started with that. It seems to be working great, although
I don't know when diaper rash becomes a possible problem.
I just feel it is a nice protective barrier on their skin.

I, too, have questions about what to put directly on their "areas." I sort of just lightly swipe
the ointment on there. At the hospital, the nurse gave us two tubes of Sensi Care and told
us to put a small amount on their girl parts! It is 49% petrolatum and 15% zinc oxide.

I've always used Vaseline or A&D at every diaper change. It does work and my two have very rarely gotten rashes. When they do, I break out the Butt Paste. If it gets really bad, I have Flanders Butt Paste, which does the trick quite quickly.

We only use it when there is a diaper rash. If there bottoms are kind of red and look like they are about to get a rash i apply then.

    PS--love the BUTT PASTE :hug99:

Used triple paste with my 7yro after every diaper change and he never had any redness nor did he have diaper rash. doing the same with the twins - triple paste on their butt, between their thighs and very lightly on Morgan's labia

    Same here!

BTW, my favorite is Triple Paste.

We use Butt Paste every diaper change. Put a little on the girl part and more on the butt. We didn't always before or used cheaper stuff and once we had a really bad diaper rash at 2 months. - so bad we kept the diaper off most of the day. We now just use the Butt Paste every diaper change and have never had another problem and they just started eating solids.

I had a post on here previously regarding the uses for Vaseline... my girls have never had a diaper rash ever. They have had maybe 5 times between the two of them some pink areas either in the labia area or butt crack areas. I use both types of A&D lotion /ointment and it is cleared up by the next diaper change. I think both dh and I don't have sensitive skin so I'm sure that helps.

We used it all the time with every diaper change for the first 10wks or so of their lives and never had a problem. We would put a little bit all over the girl and boy. Then once they started pooping and peeing less, around 10wks we only did it at night, that is when we leave them in the diaper for the whole night. We have never had a diaper rash problem. If it does look a bit red, then we put diaper cream on.
