I usually use desitin but I would really like to try something else. I made the mistake of telling my mil to use more diaper cream and less diapers and now she uses it all the time. It is so hard to to clean it off and it gets down around their little pee pee and I think it is irritating more than helping. I usually only use diaper cream at night because I don't change them at night. They have never had diaper rashes and only sometimes they will get a little raw. Is it really neccessary to use all of this diaper cream? And i was wondering can I use aquaphor for diaper cream?

I've always used A + D ointment because I hate the white diaper ointments! They've never had diaper rashes. I used it fairly dilligently when they were little, but probably use it 1-2 times a day on them now. Plus, its also good for chapped skin, burns, etc.!

We don't change ours between 6pm and 6am, and I only use diaper cream if there is a rash (which is usually a result of a bad bout of diarrhea). We use Huggies Overnights, and haven't had any problems with leaks or rashes as a result of going 12 hours w/o a change. When I do need something I use Bodreaux's Butt Paste, but the best if there is a particularly bad rash is the Butt Paste they mix up (RX) at the Walgreens Pharmacy.

    Good Luck!

We use A&D ointment and only put it on after a BM. If they get a little diaper rash, we sometimes use Desitin. I know that they make a clear Desitin now, but I haven't tried it.

We also use Bodreaux's Butt Paste. But only if they get a rash. We are still on the tube of Butt Paste we got for a shower gift. I just rarely use it at all. And the few rashes the girls have gotten were cleared up quickly with the Paste.

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste or Desitin. My DS William just had a couple of spots on his bottom that looked like the beginnings of diaper rash and I have been using the Desitin. It seemed to clear it right up.

We've only had one bout of diaper rash, and after trying A&D, Desitin & Beaudreaux's (sp?) with no luck, we tried Triple Paste. It healed it in ONE DAY! It's the paste they used to mix up in the pharmacy with a prescription, but now you can buy it over the counter. All the Pediatricians in our practice swear by it & tell us to waste our money on nothing else! I swear by it now, too! (We only use the cream if there is a rash or what appears to be a rash starting.)

I tried the A & D and personally desitin works better on my babies for diaper rash than A & D.Desitin will make a mess though if not used in moderation.

I've used Desitin from the get go. I've tried a few other things, and for me, Desitin seems to get rid of the rash in one day. I do have the problem of it getting in their vagina etc. and I sometimes worry about it - I just make sure I clean it real good. I've heard alot of good things about Budreaux's butt paste too - but haven't tried it yet as Desitin has been working. The only thing I can say about Desitin though is that if it's a bad rash - it seems to sting a little as my girls will cry when I put it on a bad one. I've heard Budreaux's doesn't sting. It does have less zinc oxide in it that desitin though. I use the desitin about every other night on my girls. to either avoid a rash, or see a little reddness and nip it in the bud. Good question about the Lansolol stuff as I JUST found a big tube of it in my changing table and wondered the same thing. Hopefully someone will have some in put.

The clear A&D ointment is my favorite.

Right now I have like a lifetimes supply of that stuff!! I am serious... there is like over 400 tubes of it in Katies dresser!!

I like Beaudreaux's Buttpaste. I haven't really needed any diaper rash cream since switching over to cloth diapers though.

Totally agree. I will only use this. Even the off brand is good. I hate the creamy ointments they never worked for my older dd. The babies haven't gotten a rash yet with the ointment! My doctor says she thinks the creams dry out the skin. She also recommends plane 'ole vasaline if you don't want to use the ointment all the time. I use this also if they are not having any skin issues.

I only use it if they get a diaper rash. We have used Balmex, Boudreaux's, Desitin, A&D, etc. I have actually found that the CVS brand has more zinc oxide than the name brands and we use that if the rash is bad.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bordeaux's Butt Paste! I used it with my daughter and now again with the twins. I think it is great at clearing up a rash and it is not as hard to get off as the Desitin. I will say though that I do only use it when they have a rash or look like they are getting one. I try to change them when they are wet or dirty during the day and just when they are dirty or will not settle during the night. Basically they get a little red about once every couple of weeks and I use the cream then within a day the redness is gone!

Also, if you have any of that Lansinoh cream (the stuff for your nipples in the purple tube) That is better than anything that I have ever used! I put it on my daughter once when I didn't have anything else and the rash was gone within a few diaper changes!!! It's expensive so I wouldn't buy it just for that, but if you are breastfeeding and have some left over use it for diaper cream! I can tell you that I breastfed my daughter for a little over 2 years and never went through a tube!

When my girls were in disposables, Bodreaux's Butt Paste was the absolute best diaper cream available. I only used it for rashes though and at night. They didn't get many rashes in cloth diapers so we used all-natural California Baby Diaper Cream with those and nothing at night. I do the same with Dax. I also like the Earth Mama, Angel Baby Bottom Balm and it's an olive oil base so it doesn't get stuck around Dax's pee pee.

That's great that your MIL is doing so wonderfully at changing the boys when they were wet so they wouldn't have to sit in that stuff. :D

Paladin is really good. I used to only find it at Target. I also use a tube of cream from Walgreens that was like $12.00, but well worth it.

We always used Dr. Smith with the boys, but I have discovered this time around Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. It has worked great for us!

Boudreaux's Butt Paste in my house but we only put it on in the evenings during the bedtime change. Haven't had diaper rash so don't know how it would work then...kind of just use it once a day as a preventive kind of thing.

We've only had to use it once so far, but we use the Burts Bees baby Bee ointment. It worked great--we were in the hospital and Roman had a nasty green-spinach-looking meconium poop that left him red and sore. We put the ointment on and not only was the redness gone at the next diaper change, but his next spinach-poop wiped off really easily.

Now that they are in cloth diapers, I haven't seen ANY rash or redness...

California baby diaper cream every night (because they sleep thru now!), and if they are a little red. I've only had to deal with two rashes (one for each), and california baby plus some nakey-time cleared it up in a day.

I use plain Vaseline with every diaper change, just as a preventative measure -- and, it makes the poop easier to wipe off, too!

DS never gets diaper rashes, but DD has very sensitive skin, and gets bad rashes now and again -- for that, I usually use Triple Paste. I like regular Desitin, too.

No need to use a white zinc oxide cream like Desitin if there's no rash, however -- tell your MIL to use something clear if you prefer. Aquaphor is great, but it's expensive, so I'd see if plain Vaseline works for you first!

We just finished a round of the worst diaper rash I have ever seen. Both babies had diarrhea and quickly went to open, bleeding sores. Awful. I think I've used almost every diaper cream mentioned. They are each great for different purposes. When it's just a little redness I like Desitin Creamy or Butt Paste. As soon as there is any open sore, I alternate Aquaphor and Bacitracin as the first layer and then "spackle" on the Triple Paste. We bought the big jar. :) My poor peanuts had to have additional hydracordisone (sp?) as well as antibiotics when their sores were open for over a week. Brutal. We also have a tube of very expensive compounded cream from the pharmacy which neutralized the bile acids and did see some improvement in the sores when we used that in combination with frequent Aveeno baths and "air" time.

Typically we do not use diaper rash cream at every change. If your MIL insists on putting something on all the time, then suggest something like Vaseline or Aquaphor. Save the others for when you need them.

    HTH!

I use the original A&D for everyday prevention. Triple Paste worked really well for treating actual diaper rash.

I haven't used any with the twins yet, they are two months and changes A LOT. If they get a rash I prefer the Bordeaux's Butt paste i used it on my older son. And they make a desitin creamy too. I am not for using all the chemicals on every changing. It isn't really necessary to use all the creams and powders unless there is a problem. Some babies don't get rashes and some babies will get rashes no matter what you do. For my son it was a food allergy and what he ate broke him out when he pooped. Honestly I would say no to using it every change. Kind of an overkill on prevention. It may in fact be too much for delicate skin.

I use regular A&D ointment (the clear stuff) works on EVERYTHING from redness to rashes to cuts and scrapes...if the rash doesn't clear with the A&D then I use Butt Paste - gone in a day...
