    Hi -

I had a baby shower yesterday and was given a diaper bag packed full of stuff from a friend. She put things in there that she used when her daughter was a baby, but I'm wondering what all you recommend for one? How many diapers for twins? What other essentials? So far, I've got in there:
-ziplock baggies for dirty diapers when you can't throw them away right away
    -20 preemie size diapers
    -Budreaux's butt paste
    -baby sunscreen
    -baby lotion
    -baby powder
    -baby wipes
    -bibs (3)
    -burp cloths (2)
-plastic grocery bags for wet baby clothes
    -2 pacifiers
-a few baby toys (plastic keys, etc.)
-nursing cape (since I'm hoping to bf)
    -nursing pads
How many changes of clothes for baby?
What else?? I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Do I NOT need any of the above?
Obviously would put a bottle in the bottle portion, and later snacks for toddlers but I'll wait on that one....;)
Finally, did you all find you needed 2 diaper bags or was one big one with lots of compartments enough?
    Thanks!

I used and still use one diaper bag (Skip Hop Double Duo). It sounds like yours is pretty well stocked. I would probably omit baby powder, it is something I have yet to use on my kids. I do keep a container of anti-bacterial wipes in there in case I have to change them while we are out and I wipe down the diaper changing area. Depending on how long I thought we would be out, I usually keep 6-10 diapers in the bag. When they were newborns, I kept two changes of clothes in there and now they are older, it's just a change of clothes for each. Congrats on your twins and on your baby shower!

I second throwing out the baby poweder. Even most day cares wont use the stuff any more. Something about the poweder in the air and thier lungs. WOuld also second wipes for clean up. I also cary sanitizing lotion. This can be used not only on hands, but shopping carts, tables etc... I aslo kept a bobbie pillow in the car for BF on the go. Has come in handy many times.

Thanks!! I have no problem tossing the powder - it was one of the things my friend put in. I forgot to mention that I had hand sanitizer in there - never thought of antibacterial wipes!

We have the skip hop duo double and love it as well.. I can keep a full day of stuff in it...

As far as the stocking goes it sounds like yours is pretty well stocked. I usually will keep mine stocked with about 6 diapers and 1 extra change of clothes, i might double that when they were really young. Then again we weren't usually out for long periods of time when they were that little...

Perhaps I'm odd, but... I never carried powder, lotion, bibs, pacifiers. I also only carried a trial size butt cream, cause you don't really need it unless they have diaper rash. If I was going out for 3-4 hours, I'd carry 2 diapers per baby. For longer, I'd go 2-3 more total. Generally, both don't have explosive pooh at the same time, and I rarely had to change more than 1 time every 3 hours unless that's what was happening. I usually only carried 1 outfit for each kid, and it was usually a onsie or sleeper or something that could be rolled small and unisex since I have b/g twins (unless I was at a really nice function, and there needed to be something nicer-then I'd go sex specific). I did usually carry 1 or 2 disposable changing pads--something not on your list. They were nice for the previously mentioned explosive pooh (no need to wipe, just toss!) or places I just thought were too gross to put my plastic pad on. I carried sanitizer, but not antibacterial wipes. I figured the standard wipe was good enough. I carried 2-3 burp rags and used them as bibs if we were eating. And of course, a few small toys. I have one standard, somewhat small diaper bag--the size of a larger purse or small laptop case and never had any issues.

Aside from the disposable wipes, the one thing I'd suggest buying if you didn't get for shower.... you can buy powder scented disposable bags for yucky diapers. I always kept 2-3 in my bag, but when we travelled, I'd take the whole pack w/ me (we used to drive 8-10 hr stretches often to visit family).

One thing I would also suggest... You'll likely get a free diaper bag or 2 from the hospital. Put a few diapers, wipes, and onsies in it, then stash it in your car's trunk. If you ever end up in a *really* bad situation, you have the stuff w/out having to lug it around.

    HTH!
