I got one from Babies R Us and after using it for a few months, it's just too small for double the stuff.

    This is it:

I'm wondering if just a regular backpack would be bigger and better...so I started searching online and got overwhelmed...too many too choose from and hard to make a good decision online...who has time to go shopping...so wondering if anyone out there has a "economical" backpack you use as a diaper bad that you like? What is the brand/style?

I love the thougth of the Baby Sherpas or the Ju-Ju Be but they are like $100+

    Thanks!

I had the Columbia one, as well... And it got very little use because it was SO small!! How are you supposed to hold stuff for two babies in there?!?! I think we took it on quick outings once or twice. The changing pad is nice, though... I kept the pad when we gave away the bag!

We have two backpacks that we use when we travel/fly (when flying both my husband and I each carry a diaper bag). Neither of them are true diaper bags. The important thing to me is pockets. Lots of them. I like everything to be seperated and organized rather than thrown into a black hole.

We have a North Face Big Shot (we have a North Face outlet near here so it was on the cheap, maybe $40?) that is BIG. A little too big sometimes. But it has tons of pockets and the laptop sleeve is great for holding a couple of bottles seperate from everything else.

We also use an old Jansport backpack that I had from college. That works great for us. It was similar to this . It meets our needs, has two separate large zippered areas, as well as another smaller pocket up front with a zippered area.

If you are looking to avoid spending on super expensive diaper backpacks, I would just find a regular school backpack with multiple compartments.

I just use a plain old Timberland that I got at TJMaxx for $20. It looks similar to the Jansport mentioned - maybe just a tad smaller. Any larger than that, imo, and you're overpacking...I keep extra stuff in the van in case of emergencies, but I refuse to tote 30lbs of stuff for what is usually only a 2-3 hr excursion. I'm rarely THAT far from the car where I couldn't go back if I had to. :pardon:

I got the Land's End diaper backpack and LOVE it. It's not overly big, but big enough to carry what I want. We tend to only go out for 2 or 3 hours max at a time, so I don't want to carry EVERYTHING. And like a PP I like to have things organized so I love all of the pouches, pockets, and zippers on this Lands End diaper pack. I'm on their email list and they regularly send me 20-25% off coupon codes w/ free shipping. In fact, I have a code now that will expire tonight if not used. PM me if you want it. This diaper backpack would then only be $30.

I love my plain old Jansport one -- I got it several years ago at some sporting-goods store for about $40. I stuffed a few diapers in one gallon-size Ziploc bag, stuffed some extra clothes in another Ziploc, tossed in some Wet Ones and a reclosable pack of wipes, and there you go.

It's the same backpack I use for work and everyday life -- the nice thing about Ziploc bags is that they're modular. ;) Take 'em out when I don't have the kids with me, put 'em back when I do.

Our official diaper bag (a huge Eddie Bauer one -- it was heavy even when it was empty!) did come with a changing pad, but since it was only big enough for a newborn, it wasn't much use. DH now uses the bag (sans changing pad) as a gym bag.

ETA: And our kids got pretty used to have their diapers changed at the playground, lying on the grass on top of someone's jacket.

I have the one you don't like and I never had an issue with it being too small...the daycare even calls it my "Mary Poppins Bag" bc of everything I can stuff in there! I will say if you don't use it now to hang on to it bc soon enough when they are off bottles/formula you don't have to lug as much "big" stuff around with you:)

I have the lands end one, and find it too small. It would fit bare essentials, diapers, wipes, maybe a small change of clothes if they were thin, thats about it. Not much room for extras-toys, burp rags. I found all the compartments to be hard to find anything. Ended up with a messenger style eddie bauer bag from bru. Works great.

I have the one you linked to and don't like, but I love mine. I can get a ton of stuff in it, but it also makes me be smart about what to take along and what to leave at home. I do like it a lot more now that my kiddos are a bit older and there is less stuff to take along.

I have a bigger school type backpack, like you I have 3 kids to tote stuff 4 (4 kids if my oldest needs a water bottle too), and I LOVE lots of pockets/zippers! It was $25 but it's a Canadian one so I can't link you to it :p But it has a huge zippered main pocket, another big zipper pocket, side stretchy mesh pockets perfect for sippy cups (or bottles) and 3 more smaller zipper pockets on the front for my stuff, their paci's and meds (tylenol and such). I also use ziploc bags as compartments. I have 6 diapers, 1 travel wipes containers, a change of clothes each, a potty seat for my older dd, and a big ziploc bag full of toys for the babies all in the big pocket. The medium pocket has 1 travel wipes container, 2 bibs, and 3 small containers of baby snacks/goldfish. I love it! And it hangs easily on my mommy hooks on the stroller handle!

I also have a school messenger bag from walmart for day trips, that's big enough to pack for a whole day at the zoo or something.
