My DH is a very smart guy. Usually. But what IS IT with men? This morning he put DS down for a nap before leaving for work. As usual, DS fussed a minute. He usually fusses a minute. If it gets out of control, then we pick him up and cuddle him, but we're really working on the self-soothing thing.

DH and I have talked about this strategy and agreed on it explicitly. DS started calming down on his own - and DH started walking over to the crib to pick him up. (Which of course would have just made the fussing a million times worse!) I couldn't yell to him to stop, but I managed to get his attention with a loud whisper and waved him away from the crib just in time.

He gives me this puzzled look and says, "What?" I told him DS was quieting down, he should leave him alone.

DH's response? "Oh, he was screaming while I was in the kitchen, and I didn't notice that he was calming down as I walked to the crib."

    AAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

(In all fairness I should say that DH is wonderful, shares a ton of the baby work with me, gets up in the middle of the night for feedings, etc etc. But sometimes I could just scream! MEN! Why are they designed so that the path from the ear to the brain is so frickin' long???)

It is terribly frustrating...isnt' it?!?! My DH helps a ton also and think that sets us up for more frustration because they are sooo involved they really should get the idea...

Men, I used to blame it on their mothers, but now I can't do that :)!

I am already paranoid of ending up like my MIL with my boys! God help me!

Are we married to the same man?! We have the exact same issue going on here. Also, picks them up WAY to fast when they wake up - even when they are not upset. I've read posts on here of babies playing in their cribs for up to an hour after waking - happily. DH is in there immediately. I'm alone with them the majority of the time & I can't give them that level of "service"
